Formac introduces new version of 17.4″ flat-panel display

Formac today announced the Gallery 1740 OX, a 17.4″ flat-panel display based on the company’s popular Gallery 1740. The snow-white display is the first member of Formac’s new Oxygen line, which offers “leading-edge technologies for an affordable price.” The Gallery 1740 OX offers a native 1280×1024 resolution, a 400:1 contrast ratio, a pixel response time of 10-25ms, and features Fujitsu’s Multi-Domain Vertical Alignment technology. The display is available with ADC or DVI interface and is Mac or PC compatible.

Griffin unveils Limited Edition Black PowerMate

To celebrate the one year anniversary of its PowerMate USB multimedia controller, Griffin Technology has announced the release of a Limited Edition Black PowerMate. Like the original brushed aluminum model, the device can be used as a volume knob, or programmed for any number of other uses such as a jog/shuttle wheel for movie editing or a scroll wheel for long documents. The Limited Edition Black PowerMate is priced at US$45 and is available exclusively from Griffin.

Fantom Drives introduces external 52x CD-RW drive

Fantom Drives today announced the addition of a new 52x CD-RW drive to its Premier product line. The new drive is available with FireWire or USB 2.0 connectivity, will write CD-R at 52x and CD-RW at 24x, and features read speeds in excess of 52x. The drive also offers BurnProof buffer underrun protection and comes with Roxio’s Toast Lite. The Fantom Drives Premier 52x CD-RW is available now for US$189.95.

Apple posts Power Mac G4 SuperDrive update

Apple has posted the Power Mac G4 SuperDrive Update for Mac OS X, which addresses an incompatibility with 4x DVD-R and 2x DVD-RW media when used with the internal SuperDrive found in affected Power Mac G4s. The update also enables users to eject audio CDs that are copy-protected or have mastering errors. The update is required for Power Mac G4s released prior to August (Digital Audio, Quicksilver, and Quicksilver 2002).
