Apple updates Open Transport

Apple posted an update to Open Transport, the company’s networking software. The file updates version 2.6 and is for use only on computers using Mac OS 9.0, and Power Macintosh G4, iBook, and iMac (Slot-loading) computers running Mac OS 8.6, notes VersionTracker. The update resolves a minor issue that prevented some applications from behaving as expected.

Apple stock a volatile choice

Thomas Lepri said in TheStreet.com that Apple’s stock may be more volatile many would like to think. Lepri blames Apple’s postioning in the consumer market for putting it “squarely in the middle of the worst part of the generally bad market for personal computers. And this time, revamping the business won’t be as simple as introducing a new color scheme.”

Torvalds slams Microsoft

Linus Torvalds, creator of Linux, has taken a shot at Microsoft after one of the company’s Senior Vice Presidents, Craig Mundie, charged that, among other things, “open source code, which is often offered under the Gnu Public License, ‘poses a threat to the intellectual property of any organization making use of it.'” Torvalds shrugged off Mudie’s comments saying, “That argument is so much crap.”
