Nintendo will use a 485 MHz IBM CPU based on the PowerPC processor in its upcoming Gamecube, their next generation gaming console due to ship in the US November 5. According to a report on PC World, this will make it easier to develop games for the machine.

24U s.r.o. has announced that it has made 24U Appearance OSAX DE (Developer Edition) available for direct download. Previously, this edition of the developer tool was only available by email request. Using this tool, all the features of Appearance OSAX can now be used by developers in their freeware, shareware and commercial software products.

PowerTicker 2.1.1 is an update to the stock ticker software that Galleon Software recently re-acquired the rights to from Aladdin Systems. The new version primarily just fixes a number of bugs with the software.

Aladdin today began shipping iClean 4.0, which is included with the recently released Spring Cleaning 4.0. The US$29.95 software ($14.95 upgrade) is now Carbonized for OS X and is intended to keep “your Web surfing private,” wiping cookies, cache, history, and more.

Iomega today announced that it will be closing its Roy, UT manufacturing plant and laying off 110 employees. The move is part of the company’s attempts to strengthen its financials in a weakened economy. Last month, Iomega’s President and CEO resigned citing conflicting long-term strategies for the company.
