Apple officially discontinues Cube

Apple today announced that it will be abandonding the Power Mac G4 Cube”indefinitely.” Despite rave reviews and an attractive enclosure, the Cube never lived up to sales expectations. “Cube owners love their Cubes, but most customers decided to buy our powerful Power Mac G4 minitowers instead,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

Analyst sees little chance of positive earnings surprise

In a somewhat curious report, Alyssa Jaffey of IdeaAdvisory says that Apple’s introduction of AppleWorks 6.2 yesterday will not have a significant impact on the company’s bottom line — not particularly surprising given the software’s low price point and the free upgrade for current 6.x owners. Additionally, Jaffey says she wouldn’t be surprised to see Apple miss this quarter’s numbers when it reports earnings on July 17, and furthermore, wouldn’t be surprised to see Apple make further downward revisions to its future outlook.
