Roxio, best known to Mac users as the company behind the CD authoring software Toast, today reported a pro forma second-quarter profit of US$2 million on revenues of $30.5 million. The company credited the continued strong demand for CD recorders, despite the stumbling economy, for its success this quarter.

Microsoft has posted Internet Explorer 5.0 Service Release 1, as noted by VersionTracker, which fixes a bug that could cause certain plug-ins to freeze the application, as well as a bug that could cause Entourage to stop responding if both applications were being used.

TDK today announced two new, high-speed, FireWire veloCD CD-RW drives. Model FE-241040, a 24x10x40x drive, will ship in November while model FE-321040, a 32x10x40x drive—the industry’s fastest—will ship in February 2002. Both drives feature buffer-underrun protection and will ship with Adaptec Toast. Pricing has not yet been announced.
