Steve Jobs offers his vision of the classroom of the future

The October 29, 2001 issue of Newsweek features a special report on the future of education and the increasing role that technology is playing. A related article, under the special report’s same “NextFrontiers” header, discusses The Classroom of the Future, and features the visions of teachers, inventors, and entrepreneurs. Apple CEO Steve Jobs leads the article, while Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich offer their opinions as well, among others. Jobs highlights the importance of hands-on learning, “When students are creating themselves, learning is taking place. And teachers will be at the epicenter of this. Anyone who believes differently has never had a good teacher. I would trade all of my technology for an afternoon with Socrates.”
