Michael Dell, chief executive of computer maker Dell Computer, said on Wednesday that he expects personal computer sales to see growth in the high single digit percentage range over the next four to five years, according to Reuters.

Opera Software has released a new version of its fast, alternative Web browser, Opera 5.0 for Mac OS Beta 4. The new version, which runs on OS 7.5.3 through 9.2, includes major improvements such as a new installer, better AppleScript support, autofill of forms, new balloon help, a revised preference layout, and searchable and dockable bookmarks. In addition, Opera 5.0 Beta 4 includes features not yet available on versions of the browser for other platforms, such as the link toolbar and improved drag and drop.

November virus definitions have been released for both McAfee Virex and Norton AntiVirus for the Mac. Intego is expected to release updated virus definitions for its VirusBarrier antivirus product tomorrow. All three products feature automatic update abilities from within the program.

QPS Inc. has signed a deal with Ingram Micro UK to be the United Kingdom distributor of its full line of mass storage products, including the popular range of Que! FireWire drives. Ingram Micro UK plans to support QPS’ venture into the UK marketplace by providing a range of dedicated sales and marketing support initiatives. Residents of the UK should see increased exposure and availability of the drives in the near future.

Bold Games has announced that it is now shipping Age of Empires II: Gold Edition, which includes both Age of Empires II: Age of Kings and Age of Empires II: The Conquerors Expansion for Mac OS 8/9 and Mac OS X. The game is expected to be on store shelves for US$48.95 later this week, while those who pre-ordered directly from the company can expect their copy within a few days.
