ATI and Intel today announced their support of the IEEE 1394 (FireWire) standard as a connection method on computers. Intel’s public backing of the technology is somewhat surprising given the company’s involvement with USB 2.0, although Intel maintains that it has always supported FireWire. Alongside the announcement, ATI unveiled its All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500DV, a PC only card that combines all the features of its high-end video card along with a FireWire port.
