Children who play video games too much are at risk of damaging the development of their brain, according to scientists at Japan’s Tohoku University. The scientists found that while playing video games encouraged areas of the brain devoted to vision and movement, that they hinder the development of the frontal lobe, which plays a crucial role in developing memory, emotion, and learning. “The implications are very serious for an increasingly violent society, and these students will be doing more and more bad things if they are playing games and not doing other things like reading aloud or learning arithmetic,” said Professor Ryuta Kawashima, who led the research team.
