MedioStream today announced neoDVD, a DVD authoring solution for Windows that the company claims “sets a new standard for the simplicity and ease of use” by allowing users to go straight from the DV camera to disc with one application. On 1.1GHz systems and faster, the company claims that neoDVD will encode DV footage to MPEG-2 (required for DVD playback) at real-time, the same as Apple’s US$3,499 dual-800MHz G4 system. Despite these capabilities, it’s highly unlikely that the $149 neoDVD can rival Apple’s free iMovie 2/iDVD combination.
