At PC Expo today, Panasonic announced that it has begun shipping the industry’s first DVD-RAM/R drive to OEM customers. The drive supports 2.6GB/5.2GB and 4.7GB/9.4GB DVD-RAM discs, as well as 4.7GB DVD-R media. The internal drive is expected to sell at retail for under $600, bringing DVD recording capabilities to a wider audience than the current “SuperDrive” DVD-R/CD-RW drives that sell for around $1000.
