July 28, 2000 – James Sentman is proud to announce version 2.0 of the
server monitoring and restart utility, Whistle Blower.
Whistle Blower regularly connects to your servers to verify that they are
online and responding properly. If a server fails to respond Whistle Blower
can notify you via local alerts, email or by sending a page. If you are
using a Master Switch from APC or a PowerKey from Sophisticated Circuits
Whistle Blower can restart the server without any further intervention from
Whistle Blower has powerful verification capabilities that can not only
make sure that your web server is online, but can also verify the return
from CGI scripts and web based databases. With the advanced shift
notification features you can be sure that the person who is on duty over
the weekend is the one who gets the page, while at the same time ignoring
the scheduled downtime of the Sunday night reboot. The web based
administration allows you to check on or restart your servers from anywhere.
Version 2.0 adds the ability to gage your response to a server outage based
on how long the server has been down. For example: after 5 minutes email
me, after 10 send me a page, if it’s still down in 20 minutes restart the
PowerKey. 2.0 also adds support for APC’s Master Switch, the ability to
check a server by sending a ping and support for the new USB KickOFF!
server restart product from Sophisticated Circuits.
Whistle Blower is priced at $90 USD. 2.0 is also available in a Lite
version for $49 that limits you to 10 servers and disables the shift
notifications features. You can upgrade to the full version at any time for
the difference in price. Whistle Blower requires at least a 68k Mac running
MacOS 7.6, but a PPC is recommended.
Whistle Blower 2.0 is available today for download and purchase from the
