Nisus Writer Pro for OS X gets more intuitive interface, more
Nisus Software has released Nisus Writer Pro 2.1.4, an update to their word processor for Mac OS X. Enhancements include a more intuitive interface, multilingual text support, more powerful find and replace, an easier-to-use style system, and more. Nisus Writer Pro can be updated from within the app. Select "Check for Updates" from the "Nisus Writer Pro" menu and follow the instructions. You can also download the update from the Pro update pages (http://nisus.com/pro). Nisus Writer Pro 2.1.4 requires OS X 10.8.5 or above. It's available from the Nisus website (https://nisus.com/pro/). It costs $79; an upgrade from Pro 1.x is $49. A three-license Family Pack is available for $99. An academic version is also available.

Station 1.0 provides a multilevel Dock for Mac OS X
True North Software has debuted Station 1.0, a multilevel (hierarchical) launcher for Mac OS X. It’s designed to help promote a more natural organization of applications and documents into folders. With nested folders, you can arrange items in Station in a way that fits your workflow with an uncluttered look and feel. Scalability is increased through logical groupings, which helps increase the number of items that can be added to the app without having to shrink the launcher size. Related items can be grouped together into a single folder. For example, one folder can contain work related items and another folder gaming items. Camera Guard is new safety software for Mac OS X
ProtectStar (http://www.protectstar.com) has introduced Camera Guard Professional 2016, a safety software solution for Mac OS X. It’s designed to make sure that no hacker, spy or malware can observe you or listen in on you. When Camera Guard is installed, a single click secures the camera and microphone. SoftRAID revved to version 5.5.5
OWC Holdings has released SoftRAID version 5.5.5, featuring extra data protection for hardware failures, Japanese localization, and additional command line support. The upgrade features new technology designed to prevent data loss due to a Mac hardware bug, experienced by over 0.1% of Mac users.   This bug causes disks to be ejected while in use and reappear a few seconds later, which is particularly disruptive for RAID volumes, and results in directory damage or data loss.  SoftRAID 5.5.5 circumvents data loss by saving all writes in a special queue. Apple announces special event for Sept. 7
Press invitations have gone out for an Apple event to be held Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. (Pacific). The invite reads “See you on the 7th.” The iPhone 7 is almost certain to be announced at the event. An Apple Watch 2 is likely to debut. Also possible is a revamped MacBook Pro line-up. This is the fifth consecutive year Apple has held an early-September product event.

Match Software has announced Check Writer III for OS X. The app lets you create and print checks, as well as their accompanying letter, from any Mac. AIC to launch all-flash VMware Virtual SAN Ready Node solutions
AIC (www.aicpc.com) will demonstrate its new all-flash VMware Virtual SAN Ready Node Solution at VMworld 2016 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas beginning Aug. 28. The new line of all-flash array hardware is built with memory and solid-state disks (SSDs) from Micron along with SAS host bus adapters from ATTO. Ergonis Software (www.ergonis.com) has announced Typinator 6.10, a new version of their text expander for Mac OS X. It’s a tool for automating the process of inserting frequently used text and auto-correcting typing errors. According to the folks at Ergonis, version 6.10 comes with 50 improvements, including new features, compatibility enhancements, as well as fixes and workarounds for known issues. Apple has opened up donations to the American Red Cross at iTunes and its app stores to help victims of the flooding in Louisiana. You can donate in increments of $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, or $200. Feingeist Software has upgraded MailButler, the Apple Mail add-on for Mac OS X. Version 6407 introduces a Unsubscribe feature. Now, if a MailButler user doesn't want to receive a newsletter anymore, he or she just needs to press the unsubscribe button, which appears at the top of the email. MailButler will automatically unsubscribe the user from that newsletter. Apple announces environmental progress in China
Apple has announced a “significant commitment” by major supplier Lens Technology to run its Apple operations on entirely renewable energy. This unprecedented commitment, combined with zero waste compliance from all final assembly sites, furthers Apple’s efforts to help manufacturers lower their carbon footprint and reduce waste in China, helping to advance China’s transition to a new green economy, according to Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives. Lens Technology has committed to power all of its glass production for Apple with 100% renewable energy by the end of 2018, as part of Apple’s supply chain clean energy program announced last year. Lens is the first supplier to make a clean energy commitment for all of its Apple production, and will meet its goal through an unprecedented power purchase agreement with local wind projects, says Jackson.
