Pam Lefkowitz, Core Computing Technologies, Inc.

Pam possesses an enviable list of qualifications and certifications that attest to a lengthy and successful career as an IT professional and highly sought-after consultant. She may be best known for coining (and trademarking) the phrase It's Always DNS®. Originally an inside joke, the phrase now serves as a calling card for the insightful work of a consultant comfortable working at all levels of networking, applications and operating systems to produce exceptional results for a client list that ranges from Enterprise level to Medium and Small Businesses. It may not always be DNS, but Pam will always dig to find out what it is!


Adam Karneboge, MacSpecialist

Adam Karneboge, President & CEO of MacSpeciaist, has been an Apple Certified Trainer since 2003, and a mentor trainer who teaches T3's for Apple since 2007. Adam teaches approximately 40 classes a year at MacSpecialist's training centers in Chicago, IL and Anchorage, AK, as well as for Apple Authorized Training Centers all over North America. Adam recently helped develop the Lion 101 and 201 classes, and holds the following certifications: Apple MIB, ACT, ACMT, ACTC, ACSA, MTC, Xsan 2 Admin, and Casper Certified Administrator. MacSpecialist, the leading Apple Specialist in the Chicagoland area currently has two retails stores, one located in the western suburb of Villa Park, IL, and the other on North Wells street in the River North area just north of the Loop district of Chicago. Neil Ticktin, MacTech Magazine

Neil not only emcees the event, but oversees the session chairs and content for each MacTech event. Neil has been the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of MacTech Magazine since 1992. With both a technical and business background, Neil has authored hundreds of articles including most of MacTech's well known benchmarking articles on productivity applications, virtualization, and performance products.

CV Rao, MacAmerica

CV Rao is the president and lead consulting engineer for MacAmerica. MacAmerica has been providing professional i.t. services to businesses, corporations and education since 1991. In addition to providing professional i.t. services, MacAmerica is an Apple Authorized Service Provider and Apple Authorized Training Center. CV is an Apple Certified Systems Administrator and member of Apple Consultants Network. He was also an advisory council member of the ACN.


Randy Saeks, Glencoe School District 35

Randy has over a decade of experience in planning, deploying, and supporting technology systems within education. This includes desktops, servers and mobile devices with emphasis on OS X and iOS-based devices. He is currently the District Network Manager for Glencoe School District 35 and works to ensure the infrastructure supports the educational goals of the organization. Randy has presented at MacTech, MacWorld, and the Penn State Mac Admins Conference. In his free time Randy enjoys taking in the outdoors, mountain biking, photography and ice hockey.


Allen Hancock, Mac Consulting Group, Inc.

Allen Hancock received his Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, and relishes the teaching aspect of being an Apple Consultant. In 2000, he started the Mac Consulting Group, Inc: now a full service Apple Specialist and Authorized Training Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Allen finds his thrill in helping his clients make the most of their computing experiences. In an attempt to help streamline checking on the mundane aspects of owning a computer, Allen founded Watchman Monitoring, Inc, a tool for service providers to keep tabs on their clients' computers without the heavy hand of "owning" their computers.

Frank Lombaer, MacSpecialist

Frank Lombaer has been professionally supporting Macs and Mac users since 2001. He is the Senior Engineer at MacSpecialist. Frank specializes in integrating Apple technology into corporate infrastructures; including Active Directory and Open Directory integrations, Xsan design and deployment, network design, and device management and deployment. He has held Apple Certifications dating way back to the 10.2 days up through today's Apple OS.


Paul Suh, ps Enable, Inc

Paul Suh has been a Macintosh developer, systems administrator, and trainer since 1985, specializing in Mac OS X security and development of complex, dymanic web sites using WebObjects. He started ps Enable, Inc. in 2006, after working for seven years at Apple Computer in various positions. Prior to that, he worked as an economist at LECG and at Deloitte & Touche, analyzing markets and businesses.


Ryan Grimes, HoosierMac

Ryan Grimes has been working on Apple computers since the age of 5 when he took apart his Apple IIe to see how it worked. He graduated from Illinois State University in 1993 with a degree in Elementary Education. After teaching at the middle school level for a year, Ryan became the assistant technology coordinator for District 89 in Glen Ellyn, IL. He then went on to the role of Mac Genius at the Old Orchard Apple Store. In 2004 Ryan moved to Indianapolis where he started HoosierMac Consulting. His certifications include: ACSA - 10.6, ACTC - 10.5, ACSA - 10.4, ACTC 10.1


Rob Daniels, Tech Wyze

Rob Daniels is President and founder of Tech Wyze, Inc. He has been consulting since 1996. As an Adobe Certified Instructor and an Apple Certified Trainer he has trained well over 16,000 people across all 50 states since the mid-90's.

Networking Overview

An overview of all the aspects of networking and the terminology is covered in this session. We discuss what a network is and the different topologies and basic hardware differences. The OSI model is covered and its importance in networking.

Local Area Networking

Learn the components of what local area networking is. If you’ve ever wondered how to plan a successful LAN, WAN, and in-between, we’ve got you covered. Once you know what a LAN is, we cover VLAN and its differences from LAN and when you should be using VLANs.

What’s on your network?

Once you know how set up your network and gone through the process, it’s time to learn how to control it. We discuss the benefits and consequences between choosing to monitor or to manage your network. Then we cover how to figure out what’s on your network. Quality of service is key and we go over how to stay on top of it.

DNS

Find out why DNS is important and what it is. Then we go over how DNS works, going over forward and reverse queries, fully qualified domain names, and record types. For LAN DNS, we show you how to define a primary zone. WE talk about when and why to use slave servers. If you don’t have a public static IP, we go over what you can do to implement DNS. Finally, we cover DNS debugging, whether to us built in resolution libraries or to us query tools.

Designing the Perfect Network Firewall & Understanding Network Routing

For those looking to decipher WAN routing and configuring a top performing firewall, we have the steps and information to help you out. We show you how to get data into your network. We, also, go over best practices for content filtering.

Planning, Deploying, and Troubleshooting Ethernet

When planning, deploying, and troubleshooting ethernet, the right knowledge can turn a difficult situation into a breeze. For planning, we cover cabling a location and building out the physical infrastructure. We go over Power over Ethernet; what the different classes are and specifically covering 802.3af and 802.3at. You’re only as good as your troubleshooting skills, we cover how to troubleshoot cabling problems so you’re not left in the lurch when problems arise.

Wireless LAN Design and Troubleshooting

When dealing with wireless LAN, planning and design are vital to success. We go over planning for whatever system you have in place. We go over best practices for deployment and tools and techniques that you can employ. Along with this, we’ll show you the tools of the trade. Troubleshooting is important and necessary, we go over how to track down problems and how to deal with problems when you find them.

Managing who’s on your network

To manage who’s on your network, we go over 802.1x network security and how to design a secure but usable system. We cover captive portal and RADIUS authentication. If you’ve been wondering how your bandwidth is being used and by who, we go over how to find out. Find out the difference between Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS).
