STARNINE TO INCLUDE LIVE SOFTWARE’S JRUN WITH WEBSTAR 3.0

— Java(tm) Servlet Runner Adds JavaSoft Java Servlet API Support To
WebSTAR Web Server —

BERKELEY, Calif., December 6, 1998 — StarNine Technologies, Inc., a
subsidiary of Quarterdeck Corporation, today announced that JRun(tm) 2.0,
created by Live Software, Inc., will be bundled with the upcoming WebSTAR
3.0 release scheduled for January. JRun adds support for the Java(tm)
Servlet API to WebSTAR. A beta version of WebSTAR 3.0, including JRun 2.0,
is now available for free download from http://www.starnine.com (see
related press release dated 12.6.98).

“We’re excited about including JRun with WebSTAR 3.0,” said Eric Zelenka,
product manager for WebSTAR. “Live Software is a leader in server-side
Java, and Java servlets are a great way to add new features to WebSTAR
sites. With JRun and WebSTAR, our users can use off-the-shelf Java servlets
such as those offered by Live Software, or quickly develop their own.”

Paul Colton, president and CEO of Live Software, adds, “JRun 2.0 brings the
state-of-the-art in servlet deployment to WebSTAR, one of the most popular
servers in use today. StarNine’s inclusion of JRun with WebSTAR gives Mac
webmasters a powerful solution for adding Java to their sites. Adding
WebSTAR to our list of supported servers broadens our leadership position
in server-side Java component solutions.”

About Java Servlets

Java Servlets are platform-independent, server-side programs written using
the Java Servlet API, part of the Java Platform. Java Servlets bring the
power of “Write Once Run Anywhere(tm),” Safe Network Delivery, and Smart
Card to Supercomputer scalibility to server-side extensions. Traditional
CGI applications and extensions written in Perl, C/C++, or other languages,
can be replaced through the use of servlets. By using Servlets as an
extensible, well-defined cross-platform environment, sophisticated
applications for both client and server become easier to develop, faster to
deploy, and more cost-effective to maintain.
