FileMaker, Inc. Ships FileMaker Pro 4.0 Developer Edition

Powerful new tools for rapid solution development and deployment of
FileMaker Pro databases

SANTA CLARA, Calif., — June 8, 1998 — FileMaker, Inc., has announced
that FileMaker Pro 4.0 Developer Edition, an essential database
development tool kit for corporate and professional database developers
that runs on Windows 95, Windows NT and the Mac OS, is now available at
authorized resellers at an estimated retail price of $499 (U.S. only).
FileMaker Pro 4.0 Developer Edition contains everything needed for
creating, managing and distributing customized FileMaker Pro database
solutions quickly.

Targeted for a worldwide database developer community estimated at over 1
million, who develop in FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Access 97 and other
database programs, the new developer edition features an API (Application
Program Interface) that allows developers to write External Functions for
FileMaker Pro 4.0 databases. This new capability expands the core
functionality found in the stand-alone desktop version of FileMaker Pro
4.0, the company’s award-winning desktop database software. With 100%
Pure Java certification, FileMaker Pro Developer Edition’s Java Classes
enable developers to access to FileMaker Pro databases over any
Java-enabled operating system, such as Windows 98, Mac OS as well as most
Unix and Solaris Systems.

FileMaker Pro 4.0 Developer Edition includes FileMaker Pro Binder
software used to create royalty-free run time versions of standalone
FileMaker Pro solutions. FileMaker Pro Binder also gives developers
control over the “look, feel, and structure” of their run time database
solutions.

What the analyst and database community are saying about FileMaker Pro
4.0 Developer Edition

“FileMaker’s reputation as an easy-to-use database product may prevent
many developers from realizing that it has evolved into a robust,
highly-configurable database platform,” says Chris Shipley, industry
analyst and editor of DemoLetter. “The Developer Edition should help
change that mindset, because it gives developers the tools they need to
create real and robust applications in FileMaker”, she adds.

“With the added abilities of FileMaker Pro 4.0 incorporated into
the new
Developer Edition, our possibilities as developers have increased
significantly,” says Matt Petrowsky, chief executive officer and
president, ISO productions, a developer located in Livermore, Calif.
“The new Binder features that allow you to customize the environment are
a big advantage to product designers that need to deploy content,” he
added.

“The value delivered on the FileMaker Pro Developer Edition CD set is
outstanding,” remarks Steve Abrahamson, chief executive officer,
Ascending Technologies, a developer based in Chicago, IL. “FileMaker Pro
Developer Edition really gives developers a jump start on the Java
capabilities and plug-in architecture in FileMaker Pro today, with tools
from third parties like MetroWerks and others. The documentation and
related files are invaluable.”

“The Developer Edition gives the database designer abilities to create a
very tight solution that help prevents user errors,” notes Craig
Schlossberg, president, Image Info, a developer based in New York
City.”My favorite feature is Kiosk Mode which blacks out the operating
system windows and functions during the use of a solution. This ensures
peace of mind, not only for the developer, but for our customer’s IS
department as well.”

The new FileMaker Pro 4.0 Developer Edition External Function API will
allow developers to produce useful new calculation functions such as
credit-card verification, complex scientific and financial operators,
many of which were not available before within previous versions of
FileMaker Pro.

Java developers, using FileMaker Pro Java classes shipping within the new
Developer Edition, will be able to harness the relational power of
FileMaker Pro to enhance their Java applications, applets, and web pages.

Ships with three new Plug-ins: Additional third-party ODBC plug-in now
available

The new Developer Edition also offers a selection of third-party plug-ins
that provide a wide array of automated tasks. Other recently announced
third-party plug-ins include a SQL/ODBC plug-in that allows users to
easily connect to ODBC hosts and perform SQL statements on tables.

Also included is a complete developer tools collection including Home
Page 3.0 (formerly Claris Home Page 3.0); Code Warrior Lite; thousands of
buttons and backgrounds to enhance the FileMaker Pro GUI; more than 50
complementary third-party tools from leading FileMaker Pro developers;
and Windows and Mac OS versions of FileMaker Pro 4.0.

FileMaker Pro 4.0 Developer Edition, ships with two hybrid CD-ROM (both
CD-ROMs will run on either Windows and Mac OS) allowing for easy
cross-platform development. Windows requirements include an Intel
