FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Stalker Software Announces CommuniGate Pro Server

Key features: Rhapsody-based, industry-strength,
administration via the Web,
extensive multi-domain support,
unique IMAP multi-mailbox features.

MILL VALLEY, CA – January 5th, 1998 – After the successful launch of the
Stalker Internet Mail Server, Stalker Software announces the CommuniGate
Pro messaging server for the Rhapsody family of operating environments.

The new reincarnation of the CommuniGate integrated messaging system
unifies the performance and standard-compliance of the SIMS with
flexibility and powerful features of the modular MacOS CommuniGate System.

The CommuniGate Pro is based on the Rhapsody Foundation framework and can
run under all operating systems supported with the Rhapsody “Yellow-box”:
Rhapsody for Power Macintosh, Rhapsody for Intel, and the Yellow Box for
Windows NT. The ability to run on all these platforms is extremely
important for the today heterogeneous networks.

The CommuniGate Pro design employs many modern OS techniques, especially
multi-threading. Unlike other servers that use one separate thread to
process a message, messages in the CommuniGate Pro are processed with 4-6
threads on their paths to destinations. For high-volume sites, such as
major ISPs, this means a huge performance benefit, especially for
multi-processor servers. The CommuniGate Pro server is completely SMP
(symmetric multiprocessing) -ready.

The SMTP component of the CommuniGate Pro server incorporates all the anti-
spamming features implemented in the CommuniGate SMTP and Stalker Internet
Mail Server.

The POP and IMAP components of the CommuniGate Pro server allow for
simultaneous access to mailboxes, and include the accounting features of
the CommuniGate POP module.

While the server speed, stability and relatively small footprint are the
features that all network administrators are looking for, the CommuniGate
Pro Server delivers one more advanced tool that has been eagerly awaited:
remote administration via Web.

The server can be configured, controlled, and monitored from any computer
on the Internet using any Web browser application. The administrators can
monitor the Server status, and they can create, update and modify user
accounts, distribution lists and auto-response (“vacation”) messages, check
the status of the queued messages, delete and redirect messages in the
queue, update the communication modules settings, and configure the
full-featured built-in CommuniGate Router.

As the CommuniGate system brought the modular architecture to
communications, the CommuniGate Pro brings modularity to the account
serving. Besides the unix-style mailboxes that can be processed with any
legacy mail application, special modules can store messages in data bases,
in folder-type mailboxes, and in other types of storage. The POP and IMAP
clients of the CommuniGate Pro server have access to all types of
mailboxes.

Here is the short list of the major CommuniGate Pro features to illustrate
its unique abilities:

The server Router can route messages on a per-domain and on a per-account
basis. The Router supports:

* domain-level routing;
* account-level aliasing;
* foreign account aliasing.

CommuniGate Pro can handle accounts for multiple domains. The Multi-Domain
features use the Router and include:

* direct mapping;
* domain-based account name mapping;
* “true multihoming” for systems with multiple IP addresses.

CommuniGate Pro supports dial-up client mail servers with registered or
virtual domains:

* For systems with dynamic IP addresses: Unified Domain-Wide
POP Accounts can be created.
* For systems with static IP addresses: SMTP feeds using
RFC1985 (ETRN) are implemented.

The SMTP subsystem has “anti-spam” features. The Server can:

* stop strangers from using the server as a mail relay;
* reject mail from the IP addresses of known offenders;
* verify return-path validity to reject mail from
“unreachable sources”;
* reject mail from certain domains or from certain accounts.
* use DNS-based black-list servers.

The CommuniGate Pro accounts subsystem supports:

* multiple mailboxes per account;
* various mailboxes types (files, folders, data bases);
* POP and IMAP access to accounts and mailboxes;
* simultaneous access to a mailbox for several clients;

The CommuniGate Pro Automated Processing (Rules) subsystem supports:

* multiple rules per account
* all selection criteria found in IMAP
* automatic actions including redirecting,
auto-replying, deleting, notifying, and
custom-application processing.

CommuniGate Pro allows for remote password modifications and new mail
notifications.

As the other Stalker mail servers, the CommuniGate Pro has a centralized
System Log. The Server kernel and all its components generate Log records
of any specified level of detail, simplifying troubleshooting. The Server
Web interface provides real-time access to the Logs.

AVAILABILITY: The CommuniGate Pro server for Rhapsody is available for
qualified beta-testers free of charge. E-mail to (pro-beta@stalker.com) to
apply.

The (cgatepro@stalker.com) mailing list similar to those for Stalker MacOS
mail servers is opened for beta-testers.

The commercial version of the CommuniGate Pro will be released at the same
time as the commercial version of the Rhapsody environment.
