Global adoption of broadband connectivity is fueling the growth of the Internet of Things (IoT); the number of broadband households will total nearly 975 million households by 2019, with over 50% in China, according to new data from Parks Associates (www.parksassociates.com).

In North America and Western Europe, 50% of broadband households own at least one connected entertainment device, smartphone, or tablet, adds the research group. Asia-Pacific will achieve 50% adoption rates of these devices by 2018.
Connected wearable devices are predicted to reach 50% adoption among broadband households in North America by 2018 and in Western Europe by 2019.

“Consumers are embracing connected devices, and companies are looking to expand their presence in the IoT,” said Stuart Sikes, president, Parks Associates. “Parks Associates’ research examines the evolution of IoT and how the concept of the connected home has expanded to influence every aspect of the household and the lifestyle of the connected consumer. Data analytics and personalization in particular are opening new business opportunities in connected entertainment and smart home solutions.”
