Proteus multi-client chat program now free

Defaultware today announced that its multi-client chat program Proteus is now free. Currently at version 4.12, users can download and go through the purchase process and the price will be free.  Defaultware plans on releasing a update in the near future that will completely remove the registration process in Proteus, as well as making it a Universal Binary. Proteus 4.12 requires Mac OS X 10.3 or later.

Proteus 4.1.2 multi-IM application released

Defaultware has released Proteus 4.1.2, the latest version of its multi-service instant messaging client for Mac OS X. The application supports all major instant messaging services ( ICQ, AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Yahoo Japan, Rendezvous, and Jabber). Version 4.12 adds the ability to know when users are logged in with a mobile device, brings back Status Floaters, the ability to send ICQ file transfers, and addresses numerous bugs. Proteus development changes hands

Defaultware, a division of visual effects and design company Defaultmind, announced today that it has taken over development of the multi-client chat application Proteus. Justin Wood, the original developer, has landed a job at Apple and therefore has handed off development to Defaultware. “Now Proteus also has our company’s money to back its development and distribution,” Defaultware said in a statement. “We have a lot of big plans for Proteus, all of which we are pretty comfortable will make you users happy.
