IGM notes that the dual 2GHz Power Mac G5 is already the top selling Mac at the online Apple Store. The system, which won’t ship till August, is third on Apple’s Top Sellers list, with iSight and iPod taking the top two spots.

Analysts and others are raising questions over Apple’s claim that its new Power Mac G5 is the world’s fastest personal computer, reports c|net. “Although Apple has won praise for the new Macs as a substantial improvement over prior machines, some have criticized the choices made in putting together the rival Dell machine for use in tests developed by the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC).

Apple recently released its developer note for the new Power Mac G4 towers, which offers a plethora of detailed information regarding the new systems.

A MacMinute reader reports that Apple has started shipping the replacement power supplies as part of the company’s Power Mac G4 Power Supply Exchange Program. “I just received my replacement MDD Power Supply. Put it in, and it is SUPER quiet — no muss, no fuss.

Apple’s Web site has been updated with a graphic stating that the dual 1.42 GHz Power Mac G4 is “now shipping.” The high-end Power Mac (US$2,699), which was announced in January along with two others, is based on Apple’s Xserve architecture, including up to 2MB of Double Data Rate (DDR) Level 3 cache and 333 MHz DDR memory, and symmetric multiprocessing capabilities delivering 21 gigaflops (21 billion floating point operations per second) of performance.

Apple today announced that it has begun shipping the dual 1.25 GHz Power Mac G4, which was introduced in August. The dual 1.25 GHz Power Mac G4 is available now, priced at US$3,299.
