Running OS X in VMware Fusion: Continues to Require Lion for Guest

This past week, VMware Released a new version of VMware Fusion 4.1, which among other things reportedly included some significant speed enhancements to Internet Explorer 9.

One thing that was revealed is that you could run earlier versions of Mac OS X as a client under 4.1 (this was not previously possible with version 4.0.1). Given the licensing, we were incredibly surprised (although delighted) to see this. Unfortunately, while incredibly useful for developers wanting to test on multiple versions, this turns out to be an oversight.

Lion Downloads Top One Million in First Day

Apple announced today that on its first day, over one million users bought and downloaded Mac OS X Lion. Available through the Mac App Store for $29.99 (US), users are buying Lion “faster than any other OS release in Apple’s history.”

“Lion is off to a great start, user reviews and industry reaction have been fantastic,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Lion is a huge step forward, it’s not only packed with innovative features but it’s incredibly easy for users to update their Macs to the best OS we’ve ever made.”
