EyeTV, EyeConnect Universal Binary updates available

Elgato Systems today released EyeTV 2.1 as a Universal Binary update that natively supports both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs. This version expands support for full-resolution playback of HDTV to Macs with Intel Core Duo processors — a feature previously reserved for owners of high-end dual Power Mac G5 computers. The full 720p and 1080i HDTV experience is now available on portable and consumer desktop Macs such as the MacBook Pro and the new iMac, as well as the Mac mini with Core Duo processors.

Elgato releases EyeTV 1.8.3, EyeTV EZ

Elgato Systems has announced the release of EyeTV 1.8.3, a free software update that adds support for third party digital video recorders allowing users to use their existing TV tuner hardware with EyeTV software. Other new features include a new “Burn with Toast” command — using Toast 7 Titanium’s new features, users can burn EyeTV recordings directly; and new display options, which include a new “Progressive Scan” feature. Also announced was EyeTV EZ, the company’s new product that enables high-quality television viewing on the Mac.

Elgato today announced the addition of Clear QAM digital cable support to its EyeTV 500 HDTV digital TV recorder for the Mac. EyeTV 500 supports digital unencrypted cable as well as digital terrestrial reception, is easy to install, set up and use, and allows users to watch, record, edit and enjoy interference-free crystal-clear HDTV in digital picture and sound quality. EyeTV 500 is priced for US$349.00 ($50 less on the Macworld Expo show floor).

Elgato’s technology partner, Decisionmark Corp., has introduced a new Remote Scheduling feature for its TitanTV.com Electronic Program Guide (EPG). In addition to Remote Scheduling, TitanTV functionality includes smart searching, favorite channel customization from all sources (antenna, cable, satellite, etc.), messages directly from local TV broadcasters, and more.

Elgato gains former Apple director as new CEO

EyeTV digital video recorder software updated

El Gato has posted EyeTV Updater 1.0.5, the latest version of the Mac OS X software for its EyeTV digital video recorder. From the release notes: “The code which wakes or powers up your system to record shows has been overhauled, to address bugs and increase overall reliability. Waking your Mac only works on systems that have a PMU (Power Management Unit). Systems released after the middle of 2000 should have a PMU.”
