With the beta for 26.6 in testing, Apple has has just released a small point release to target critical bugs in its latest hardware. iOS 26.5.1 fixes a charging bug that impacts only iPhone 17 and iPhone Air, while macOS 26.5.1 addresses a shutdown bug on Macs with M5 processors that primarily impacts enterprise users. The release notes for iOS 26.5.1 state: “This update addresses an issue for a small number of users that may prevent wired charging on iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models when the battery is nearly drained.” The release notes for macOS 26.5.1 state: “This update addresses an issue for enterprise users where Mac computers with an M5 chip could unexpectedly shut down when using certain content-filtering network extensions.” If you have a new iPhone or Mac, it’s best to update now, even if you haven’t noticed any issues with these specific bugs.
