- 02:07 pmApple's Podcasts have become a target for hackers, but it's unclear how
Someone is using Apple's iPhone Podcasts app as a potential attack vector for malicious activity, but the severity of the issue is currently unclear. The Apple Podcasts app is misbehaving for someThe issue appears to be that someone has found a way to launch the Podcasts app without user input. It's reported that the problem affects both the iPhone and Mac, and Apple is yet to offer any explanation as how the app is being opened. The problem was first reported by 404 Media's Joseph Cox who says that he sometimes unlocks his Mac only to find the Podcasts app running with seemingly random podcasts open. Macworld Apple has worked hard to build a reputation for security and privacy: using iOS or macOS, the company has led us to believe, makes it much harder for hackers and other bad actors to steal our data or gain access to our accounts. But that doesn’t mean Apple platforms are immune to malicious attacks, and it looks like the company’s Podcasts app could be experiencing one at the moment. One reporter, Joseph Cox of 404 Media, has observed a suspicious pattern of behavior on Podcasts that’s been going on, he says, for months. The app, on both iOS and macOS, spontaneously opens podcasts with odd names and odd contents. “[The] app will open religion, spirituality, and education podcasts with no apparent rhyme or reason,” he writes. “Sometimes, I unlock my machine and the podcast app has launched itself and presented one of the bizarre podcasts to me.” The podcasts are often years old, and in many cases their titles are nonsensical and stuffed with suspicious URLs. Some of them have no audio content at all. Worse, the page for at least one of these podcasts contains a link to a potentially malicious website. Cox isn’t the only person to raise concerns. One very recent review of a six-year-old podcast, he notes, says “Scam. How does Apple allow this attempted XSS attack?” This category of attack matches the suspicious link and redirect Cox spotted in one of the spontaneously launched podcasts. The reporter also spoke to the security expert Patrick Wardle, who was able to verify the phenomenon. “I have replicated similar behavior,” Wardle writes, “albeit via a website: simply visiting a website is enough to trigger Podcasts to open (and [to] load a podcast of the attacker’s choosing), and unlike other external app launches on macOS (e.g. Zoom), no prompt or user approval is required.” As Cox emphasises, the behavior is more weird than truly troubling; Wardle describes it as hackers “actively evaluating the Podcasts app as a potential target,” implying that we are yet to experience real danger, but could do so in the future. Cox says he’s alerted Apple multiple times, but the company has yet to respond. We hope it’s quietly preparing a fix or defence against attacks via this new vector.01:00 pmMiss your Mac’s app Launchpad? Get it back with BuhoLaunchpad (up to 70% off).

Macworld At a glanceExpert's Rating Pros Incredibly solid build quality Beautifully quiet Smooth linear Hall effect switches Double-shot OSA profile PBT keycaps Lots of extras in the box Cons 75% layout leaves off keys Extremely heavy No height adjustment or wrist rest Poor implementation of Caps Lock indicator Our Verdict A brilliant keyboard with the performance to back up its gorgeous looks, the Keychron Q1 HE is a sterling option for macOS and Windows users alike. Just be prepared to pay for the privilege. Price When Reviewed This value will show the geolocated pricing text for product undefined Best Pricing Today Price When Reviewed$239.99 Best Prices Today: Keychron Q1 HE QMK keyboard Retailer Price $191.99 View Deal Keychron $240 View Deal Price comparison from over 24,000 stores worldwide Product Price Price comparison from Backmarket Editor’s note: The Keychron Q1 HE is on sale for $192 at Amazon, a savings of $48 off its $240 MSRP. I recently reviewed the Lemokey L1 HE, an excellent mechanical keyboard full of gamer-specific features. What if you’re not interested in gaming or are put off by the L1 HE’s garish, in-your-face aesthetic? Well, Lemokey’s parent company, Keychron, has another option in the form of the Keychron Q1 HE QMK, and it’s a superb device with quality touches everywhere you look. Gone are the gaudy key legends and transparent caps, replaced by a far more refined look and feel that should complement your Apple gear nicely. Yet it loses almost none of the Lemokey’s high-end features and rock-solid build quality, and it even has a few perks of its own. Take the Keychron Q1 HE out of its box and its heft is unmistakable. It weighed in at a beefy 1.74kg according to my scales–combined with the small rubber feet on the underside, that weight means it isn’t going to slip around on your desk any time soon. The metal case is made from 6063 aluminum, and its quality stands up to inspection. There’s no bending or flexing anywhere, just a solid chunk of metal that should take its fair share of bumps and bruises without an issue. There are two color options to choose from: Carbon Black (black case and white, black and red keycaps); and Shell White, (white case and white, black and green caps). I was sent a Carbon Black unit, and it looks beautiful in a simple, understated way. The Q1 HE also looks absolutely gorgeous when its south-facing RGB lights are aglow. There are 24 customizable presets to choose from, most of them subtle, tasteful, and a far cry from the glaring “gamer” aesthetic. Set against the white keycaps and black chassis, the effect is quite lovely. The only quibble I had with the lighting is that the Caps Lock indicator is extremely difficult to see. When pressed, it changes the key’s underside backlighting from RGB to white. Yet you can only really see this from directly above, thanks to the chunky keycaps surrounding the Caps Lock key, and you’re unlikely to be typing from a bird’s eye view. A clearer indicator would be an improvement. (Some apps display a Caps Lock icon when that button is active, so you could rely on that, but it’s not a system-wide display.) The Q1 HE offers a 75 percent layout, which features a compact design that chops off a few keys that you might not need (the numpad, the End key, and a few more). I personally prefer an 80 percent layout (also known as tenkeyless) and found myself reaching for an End key that was frustratingly absent. The compactness is also undercut somewhat by the keyboard’s weight, which makes it less portable than you might expect from a board of its size. The knob is set to sound volume by default and can be customized.Alex Blake/Foundry The keycaps are made from double-shot PBT plastic, which has a very lightly textured feel and is resistant to finger oils, so you shouldn’t see any smudges showing up (unlike what I noticed with some of the Lemokey L1 HE’s caps). The double-shot nature means that the key legends are made from separate pieces of plastic, so they will never wear off. Keychron uses a sloped OSA profile, which is comfortable in use. In the top-right corner, you’ll find a knob that can be rolled and clicked in, and it’s set to adjust your computer’s volume by default. This can be changed using Keychron’s web app (to adjust RGB backlighting level, for example). It’s made of solid, textured metal and feels thoroughly well-made. Around the back is a toggle to flip between Windows and macOS key layouts. This ensures keys are where you expect them to be–so that the key labeled Option actually works like an Option key, which it doesn’t in Windows mode. This switch is a great addition if you regularly use both macOS and Windows devices during the day. Keychron has included both macOS and Windows keycaps in the box, too, alongside a heap of extras, including a keycap and switch puller, a screwdriver and screws, an Allen key, and more. Next to the macOS/Windows switch is another to move between Bluetooth 5.2, wired, and 2.4GHz modes (note that you get a 1,000Hz polling rate in wired and 2.4GHz modes, but only 90Hz with Bluetooth 5.2). This switch enables you to connect to multiple devices at once, if you like. The Bluetooth 5.2 connection itself can hook up to three different devices, and you move between them with a quick keyboard shortcut. It means there are plenty of connectivity options, should you need them. Switch between Mac and Windows, and even between wireless connections.Alex Blake/Foundry What you don’t get, though, is height adjustment. The Keychron Q1 HE has four tiny rubber feet on its underside, but no way to raise it up or tweak its typing angle. I didn’t find it to be too much of an issue–the angle was comfortable enough for me–but that won’t work for everyone. Perhaps its weight makes it too heavy for flip-out feet, but there are other ways to add height adjustment to a keyboard. At this price, a wrist rest would be a welcome inclusion, but there’s no such luck here. While it’s a minor point, it’s still slightly disappointing. First-rate typing feel Type on the Keychron Q1 HE and you’ll notice one thing right away: it’s incredibly quiet. Keychron has stuffed it with an acoustic pad and sound-absorbing foam, wrapped up in a gasket-mount design, all of which combine to make the keyboard whisper-quiet and supremely comfortable. Any sounds that do emerge are pleasing to the ear, with a soft, creamy feel that won’t disturb your coworkers. Aside from the sound, the typing feel is incredibly important with any mechanical keyboard. I normally prefer tactile switches–which provide a small physical “bump” with each key press–to smooth linear switches. The unit I reviewed came with Gateron’s linear Nebula switches, though, yet they feel extremely comfortable in use. There’s enough weight behind each key press to prevent “bottoming out” (where you push too hard and the key hits the board’s chassis) and the resultant finger fatigue and aching. I could type at my usual quick pace, more or less without issue. Keychron includes tools for swapping out the keys.Alex Blake/Foundry They’re not the lightest switches in the world, though, and unfortunately, they’re the only ones Keychron offers with the Q1 HE. Luckily, Keychron has made the switches hot-swappable, so you can swap them out with other switches that might suit you better, but they must be Gateron Double-Rail Magnetic switches sold on the Keychron website in order to be compatible. Speaking of which, the HE in the Keychron Q1 HE’s name refers to its magnetic Hall effect switches. These actuate each key press using electromagnetic fields rather than a physical mechanism, which should help prolong their life in the long run. I didn’t have the Q1 HE long enough to be able to properly test that, but it’s a welcome feature to have regardless. The board also passed my n-key rollover test with flying colors. The magnetic switches enable some neat additions in terms of customization. Using Keychron’s web app, you can adjust each key’s actuation point so that it requires more or less force to register a press; enable rapid trigger mode, which lets you repeatedly press keys without fully letting go of them; and more. There’s even a tool to program up to four actions with one keystroke. Although the Q1 HE isn’t marketed as a gaming keyboard, it holds up pretty well during gameplay, with features like the aforementioned rapid trigger mode adding to its arsenal. You might prefer lighter switches that can be pressed more quickly if you play a lot of shooters, but it gives a good account of itself in casual games. Compared to the Lemokey L1 HE, though, the Q1 HE is missing a few gamer-specific features. That includes Last Keystroke Prioritization and Snap Click, both of which manage what happens when two keys are pressed at once. You’ll also miss out on Analog Mode, which enables your keys to work like a controller’s joysticks and measure nuanced presses rather than simple on/off inputs. That means that while the Keychron Q1 HE stands up to a lot of gaming scrutiny, it’s not the decked-out tool that the pros might be looking for. As for battery life, after 36 hours of usage, the Q1 HE went from 97 to 18 percent in Bluetooth 5.2 mode with the RGB backlighting at maximum brightness, a drop of 79 percent. It automatically turned the RGB lighting off at 20 percent, so you might be able to eke out that final fifth for longer than if the lighting is at full blast. Keychron told us the Q1 HE should last for anywhere between 35 and 50 hours with the backlighting, or up to 100 hours with the lighting off. The results I got seem roughly in line with that, although it is a wide ballpark figure that Keychron provided. Should you buy the Keychron Q1 HE? Its quiet, smooth typing feel and premium construction make the Keychron Q1 HE QMK an attractive option for both typists and gamers, while its extra features (its macOS/Windows toggle, hot-swappable switches, etc.) mean there’s plenty more under the hood. The top-tier build quality and Hall effect keys provide reassurance that it should stand the test of time, which makes its price tag more palatable.12:06 pmPatents, research, and rumors: Everything the Apple Car was going to be
Apple spent billions of dollars and very many years before abandoning the Apple Car — and we now know so much about what it would have been like. You can have any color you want, as long as it's Space Gray. There has not been a single word from Apple about it working on an Apple Car, nor about it cancelling the project entirely. It would be as if nothing had ever happened, except that the company filed very many patent applications about its features.Apple also had to conform to certain regulations, such as driving permits. But those just told us that there was at least some autonomous self-driving research. Best U.S. iPhone deals for Black Friday 2025 Grab an iPhone this Black Friday.Eugen Wegmann These are Apple’s iPhone offers for Black Friday: $75 gift card with iPhone 16 or 16 Plus $50 gift card with iPhone 16e Best U.S. iPhone carrier deals for Black Friday 2025 In the U.S., most of the deals come from carriers and carry a bunch of strings—trade-in requirements, new lines, and discounts offered as bill credits over two or three years: AT&T: You can get up to $1,100 off the iPhone 17 Pro when you trade in an eligible iPhone. The savings transform into monthly credits on your bill for the next 36 months. T-Mobile: The carrier offers the iPhone 17 or iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone Air for free if you either switch to T-Mobile or trade in a qualifying phone, as long as you’re on a qualifying Experience Beyond plan. The phone is paid through 24 monthly bill credits. Verizon: Get an iPhone 17 or iPhone 17 Pro free with trade in and certain Unlimited plans. This phone is paid through 36 monthly bill credits. U.S. Cellular: Up to $1,100 off iPhone 17 Pro (or any other iPhone) with a new line and qualifying plan. This phone is paid through 36 monthly bill credits. Xfinity Mobile: If you trade in a qualifying phone you can get up to $1,100 off a new iPhone 17 series model until Dec. 2. Paid as 24 monthly bill credits with a 24-month contract. Boost Mobile: You can get $850 off the price of the iPhone 17 with Boost’s $65 per month plan. Best U.K. iPhone deals for Black Friday 2025 David Price / Foundry These are Apple’s iPhone deals for Black Friday: £60 gift card with iPhone 16 or 16 Plus £40 gift card with iPhone 16e In the U.K., there are fewer limitations on the sale of iPhones, so you will be able to pick one up unlocked at a discount if you would prefer to buy an iPhone up front, rather than on a contract. As long as you don’t mind the fact that this iPhone only has one rear camera, we recommend the £100 off iPhone 16e deal at Amazon, in particular the £599 deal on the 256GB model. The newest iPhone to get a cut-price deal is the iPhone Air, which has £30 off. Also be on the look out for deals (like this one from AO) on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max which are no longer sold by Apple but would offer a good option to those who appreciate the extra camera on the Pro iPhone models but can’t stretch to the iPhone 17 Pro. Amazon, iPhone Air (256GB): £899 (£100 off, RRP £999) Amazon, iPhone 16e (128GB): £499 (£100 off, RRP £599) Amazon, iPhone 16e (256GB): £599 (£100 off, RRP £699) Amazon, iPhone 16e (512GB): £799 (£100 off, RRP £899) AO, iPhone 16 (128GB): £644 (£55 off, RRP £699) AO, iPhone 16 Pro (128GB): £899 (£100 off, RRP was £999) Apple, £60 gift voucher with iPhone 16 or 16 Plus Apple, £40 gift voucher with iPhone 16e We’d suggest that when it comes to the other deals you should weigh them up against Apple’s own giveaway, where you could get £60 or £40 vouchers with the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, or iPhone 16e, respectively. For example, £100 off an iPhone 16e is better than Apple’s £40 voucher, but AO’s £55 off iPhone 16 (128GB) doesn’t match Apple’s £60 voucher deal so it would be worth waiting to see it that goes lower. How to get the best iPhone deals for Black Friday 2025: Our Advice Apple is offering a $75/£60 gift card with the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, and $50/£40 with the iPhone 16e, you should make sure that any offers you see beat those prices. Black Friday can be a good time to get a deal on an older iPhone, such as the iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max which are now discontinued. These will be worth grabbing if you see them at a good price. iPhone 17: Apple only launched the iPhone 17 lineup in September so we don’t expect to see big discounts, other than the typical “free iPhone as bill credits over several years with a qualifying plan” deals that are always on offer in the U.S. iPhone 16: Shoppers should look out for discounts on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, but note that Apple has already cut prices by $100/£100. Also note that Apple no longer sells the 512GB versions of these handsets, so if you find those models on sale at a good price we recommend buying them. Similarly, if you see the now discontinued, iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max on sale at a good price then these would be a good purchase. iPhone 16e: The price of the iPhone 16e will likely drop. This is Apple’s ‘budget’ handset so it already has a low price though so don’t expect huge additional savings. We don’t recommend any iPhones older than the ones above, especially not the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus which are not Apple Intelligence compatible. iPhone headphones deals for Black Friday 2025 Foundry Many of the best deals are going to be on iPhone accessories—cases, chargers, cables, and the like. Apple’s Black Friday ‘deal’ takes the form of gift card offers, rather than actual savings. This year, you can get an iPhone 16 or 16 Plus with a gift card worth $75/£60, or an iPhone 16e with a gift card worth $50/£40. The deals over the past few years show that Apple’s offer this year is right in line with the offers from previous years. We recommend the deal, especially in the U.S. where iPhones don’t tend to get price cuts. For U.K. readers the Apple voucher prices are a good indication as to how much money off an iPhone would be considered a good deal. 2025202420232022iPhone 16 & Plus$75–––iPhone 16e$50–––iPhone 15–$75––iPhone 14–$50$75–iPhone 13––$50$50iPhone SE–$25$25$50 Get Apple's Black Friday offer (U.S.) Get Apple's Black Friday offer (U.K.) Black Friday 2025: Best deals for Apple products Check out these roundups for the best Apple deals: Apple Black Friday sale details Best Black Friday Apple deals Best Black Friday MacBook & Mac deals Best Black Friday AirPods deals Best Black Friday Apple Watch deals Best Black Friday iPad deals10:41 amThe EU may be about to increase regulation on Apple Maps and the company’s ads business | 9 to 5 MacThe EU may be about to increase regulation on Apple Maps and the company’s ads business
Regulation enforcement against Apple in the EU may be about to intensify. Under the Digital Markets Act rules, the company must notify the EU commission about services that reach the thresholds for so-called gatekeeper status, targeting big tech services with more than 45 million active users in Europe. As it is obliged, Apple informed the EU that Apple Maps and Apple Ads meet that level. The commission now has 45 days to decide whether Maps and the company’s ad businesses are sufficiently monopolistic to warrant a step up in regulation. more…10:30 amWhy the iPhone Air’s USB-C port is actually a technical marvel
Macworld When Apple was still in the Lightning era and fought tooth and nail against USB-C, the common argument was that Lightning ports were significantly thinner than their USB-C alternatives. The USB-C connector is 1.1 mm thicker than Lightning (2.8 mm versus 1.7 mm). About five years later, Apple released its thinnest iPhone–with a USB-C port. If you place the iPhone Air next to any other USB-C smartphone and compare their ports, you will notice that the port on the Air is so incredibly thin that you can barely see its casing. This special feature is due to a new manufacturing process that Apple details in a recent press release, and which the repair specialist iFixit scrutinizes. How Apple manufactures the iPhone Air’s USB-C port Apple uses a new manufacturing process for the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and the iPhone Air. The housing of the Apple Watch Ultra and the port of the iPhone Air are 3D printed from a titanium powder. It was assumed that Apple would rely on the common method and mix the recovered titanium powder with an adhesive in order to “cast” the desired mold from this mass, layer by layer. However, as Apple shows in its press release and iFixit confirms with the microscope images, the company uses a 3D process with a laser. The desired molds are milled from a titanium block. The process was developed at the TU Dresden, the Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology in Dresden, and the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden, and was presented six years ago in the scientific journal Nature. The process was originally developed for titanium dental implants, which adhere better to the jawbone and are bacteria-repellent thanks to the special structure of larger craters (50 µm) and smaller holes of 5 µm on the crater surface. The laser-structured surface of a titanium implant.Nature / Fabrication of multifunctional titanium surfaces by producing hierarchical surface patterns using laser based ablation methods Benefits of the new process for the iPhone Air The new titanium surface of the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and the iPhone Air is not bacteria-repellent, but the structure still lacks the smaller 5 µm indentations that prevent the adhesion of slightly larger bacteria. However, the new components have other functions: the titanium produced in this way is more heat-resistant, which will particularly benefit the iPhone Air, as the device is charged via the USB-C port. With the Apple Watch Ultra 3, Apple points out that the watch has become more water-resistant. The new process allows for different structures in areas that previously had to remain flat. For example, the new housing has been given a rough surface around the frame so that the antenna adheres better to it. It can be assumed that the USB-C port of the iPhone Air also has this feature. The new process is energy-efficient and will save the manufacturer 400 metric tons of titanium by the end of the year. Around 50 percent less raw materials are used in production than in previous generations. The fact that Apple was able to shrink the iPhone Air to such an extent is due in part to the innovative process used to manufacture the USB-C port from titanium. This has made the component thinner, more heat-resistant, and more energy-efficient in production. How we pick the best Apple Watch deals We’ve tested every Apple Watch model that Apple has ever sold, and wear them in our daily lives. We regularly check Apple Watch prices from all the retailers and have an extensive historical knowledge of historical prices and all-time lows. Therefore we know when we find a really good deal on a really good product, and we will share it here. Right now our team is checking prices across Amazon and other major retailers several times a day and highlighting the verified low prices at the time of our latest update. We also evaluate deal prices against the current MSRP/RRP for each model and spot any discrepancies that might be missed when looking at the price of older models to help our readers avoid scams. When it comes to deciding what actually constitutes a good deal, we would look for roughly $50 to $70 off the current models for U.S. buyers, while in the U.K., we rarely find more than £30 off. Best Apple Watch deals for Black Friday 2025 Want to get a bargain on a new Apple Watch? These are the best deals we’ve seen so far. Check out our advice below this section for tips on what to look out for. U.S. You can save $60 on the new Apple Watch Series 11 at Amazon, but there is also $150 off the older model, which isn’t all that different (the two new health features, hypertension alerts and Sleep Score, are also available on the Series 10), so definitely worth your attention. We gave the Apple Watch SE 3 a near-perfect score of 4.5 stars and highly recommend it at full price—for $50 off, it’s a no-brainer decision. There’s only $20 off the Ultra 3, so it’s probably worth waiting a little longer on that one to see if prices drop again. Amazon, Apple Watch Series 11 (42mm): $339 ($60 off, MSRP $399) Amazon, Apple Watch Series 11 (46mm): $369 ($60 off, MSRP $429) Amazon, Apple Watch SE 3 (40mm): $199 ($50 off, MSRP $249) Amazon, Apple Watch SE 3 (44mm): $229 ($50 off, MSRP $279) Amazon, Apple Watch Ultra 3: $780 ($20 off, MSRP $799) Walmart, Apple Watch Series 10 (46mm): $279 ($150 off, was $429 – clearance) Apple, $50 gift card with Apple Watch SE 3 and Series 11 U.K. In the U.K. the deals are small on the newest Apple Watch models, but is it possible they will improve over the Black Friday weekend – we’ve already seen Amazon drop the price of the Watch SE 3 further, so it’s now £20 off. If prices don’t drop further, our advice would be to snap up Apple’s Black Friday offer, which will get you a £40 gift card. The biggest deals on offer right now are on the older models. We’d recommend Argos’s £200 off the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Curry’s £130 off the Apple Watch Series 10. Just keep in mind that in the U.K., Apple cut the Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3 prices by £30 and £50 compared to the previous generation when they were introduced. Keep this in mind when shopping, because some stores might make savings appear to be larger than they actually are. Amazon, Apple Watch Ultra 3: £719 (£30 off, RRP £749) KRCS, Apple Watch SE 3 (40mm): £215 (£4 off, RRP £219) Amazon, Apple Watch SE 3 (44mm): £229 (£20 off, RRP £249) Argos, Apple Watch Ultra 2: £599 (£200 off, RRP was £799, Ultra 3 is £749 – clearance) Currys, Apple Watch Series 10 (42mm): £279 (£120 off, was £399, Series 11 is £369 – clearance) Currys, Apple Watch Series 10 (46mm): £299 (£130 off, was £429, Series 11 is £399 – clearance) Apple, £40 gift voucher with Apple Watch SE 3 and Series 11 How to get the best Apple Watch deals for Black Friday 2025: Our advice Like always, Apple sells three watches, but for the first time in years, all three models were updated this year. Apple Watch Series 11: The standard Apple Watch Series 11 starts at the same price as previous watches ($399/£369) and is largely the same as the Series 10. The main upgrade is better battery life (24 hours vs 18 hours), 5G connectivity (on cellular models), and better scratch resistance. We’re spotlighting a deal on the Series 10 for $120 off and recommend grabbing it instead of paying more for the Series 11. Apple Watch Ultra 3: The Apple Watch Ultra 3 ($799/£749) has a slightly larger screen, 5G connectivity, Emergency SOS via satellite, and significantly longer battery life (42 hours vs 36 hours). With prices already dropping by $100, we recommend picking up the newer model if you’re looking for a large, rugged watch. Apple Watch SE 3: Apple updated the Apple Watch SE for the first time in years and gave it several overdue features, including an always-on display, skin temperature sensor, gestures, 5G (on cellular models), a faster chip, and fast charging. With the same $249/£219 starting price, an older SE 2 would need to be around $100 to be worth it. Early Black Friday sales are already pushing the price of the SE 3 under $200 and we think it’s a fantastic option for just about anyone. For detailed advice on selecting the best model for you, check out our Apple Watch buying guide. Black Friday Apple Watch deals: What to avoid Spot bad deals: It’s important to be aware that Black Friday brings bad deals as well as good ones. Retailers don’t want to give you a great deal; they want you to buy their unwanted stock at a high price and will use all sorts of tricks to persuade you to do so. Don’t let them get away with it. Check the real pricing: Always check the current MSRP/RRP for the watch you’re planning to buy (we include these with all of our recommended deals). In the U.K. Apple dropped prices on the new set of Watches when they were introduced, but retailers will conveniently forget to mention this and quote the old price instead. That makes their discount look bigger and the deal more appealing. Some retailers also raise their own prices ahead of Black Friday, then drop them back down and claim a large saving. Price tracker sites like CamelCamelCamel can help you to work out if this has happened. We will also flag it if we see it. Read about the product: It’s worth checking reviews and buying guides (such as ours, linked above) to assess the age and worth of the device. Make sure you’re not being fobbed off with antiquated stock. Also, watch out for deals on the cellular models; these can look like big savings, but in our experience, there is little point in owning a cellular Apple Watch. You might as well pay less and get the standard model. Does Apple discount Apple Watches for Black Friday? Apple doesn’t drop prices for Black Friday. Rather, it gives away gift cards when you buy certain items. For Apple’s Black Friday deal in 2025, it is giving away $50/£40 gift cards with Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Series 11 purchases made on Apple’s U.S. site or Apple’s U.K. site. The Series 10 wasn’t included in 2024’s sale, so the fact that the Apple Watch 11 is included this year is a nice surprise. In many cases, especially in the U.K. where the price drops aren’t as big, the Apple Black Friday deal is a better option. We’ve seen some great deals already, including $79 off the AirPods 4 with ANC. AirPods Pro 3 are $30 off, which is their first significant discount, but Walmart has a great deal on the AirPods Pro 2 for $138, while in the U.K., we’ve seen them down to £169 at Amazon, but they frequently go out of stock so be careful to check they aren’t ‘used’ models. Since there are just four models of AirPods, we’ll list the best price we can find for each, but we will let you know when a particular model hits an all-time low. Best Black Friday 2025 AirPods & AirPods Pro deals Black Friday 2025 is an incredible time to pick up a new pair of AirPods. AirPods 4 (with and without ANC) and AirPods Pro 3 are all at all-time low prices, and significantly lower than we’ve previously seen. The Black Friday deals of $69 for AirPods 4 and $100 AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation are simply mind-blowing. You can get a great deal on the older AirPods Pro 2, which are $139 at Walmart, and AirPods Max have just dropped under $400, so now is the time to grab a pair. See more U.S. AirPods deals below. U.K. readers have been able to save £30 on the AirPods Pro 2 on two occasions in November: earlier this week and earlier in the month they were £169. These models keep going out of stock, so be careful to check that it isn’t ‘used’ model if you purchase one. Right now you can also get £20 off the AirPods 4, bringing the price under £100. See more U.K. AirPods deals below. Apple’s Black Friday AirPods deal is a gift card worth $75/£60 with AirPods Max, $25/£20 gift voucher with AirPods Pro, and $25/£20 with AirPods 4. The deals we are seeing mostly beat Apple’s deal, which we’ve tracked over the past few years (see the values offered from 2022-2025 below), but the vouchers may be a better option if you are U.K. based as the discounts are smaller. Here’s what to look out for: AirPods 4: Apple’s cheapest AirPods weren’t updated in 2025, and we’ve seen prices falling all year. Over Prime Day, they dropped to $89 and early Black Friday sales have already dipped even lower. We don’t know if they’ll get as low as $75, but it’s possible. AirPods 4 with ANC: Apple sells a version of the AirPods 4 with noise cancellation for an extra $50, but we’ve seen them as low as $119. With AirPods 4 ANC getting a larger price drop heading into Black Friday, we could see the ANC model inch closer to $110. AirPods Pro 3: Apple just released the newest AirPods Pro 3 in September alongside the iPhone 17, so we’re not expecting the kind of deep discounts we saw last year with AirPods Pro 2. However, we might see the remaining stock of AirPods Pro 2 drop as low as $150. AirPods Max: Apple’s over-the-ear AirPods Max haven’t been updated in a meaningful way since 2020. They still have an H1 chip, don’t support Apple’s latest AirPods Pro features, and have a very high price tag compared to similar wireless headphones. If you want a pair, we’d recommend waiting until they drop under $400. Does Apple discount AirPods for Black Friday? Gift card values 2022–2025 Apple doesn’t cut prices for Black Friday, but it does hold a 4-day Shopping Event where it gives away gift cards when you buy certain items. Our editors have used and reviewed every major iPad release and nearly every generation over the past 15 years, and have a working knowledge of all models, features, and specs. We buy iPads ourselves and track price drops all throughout the year, so we can tell the difference between a legitimate Black Friday deal and one that’s disguised to look good. We have a working knowledge of each model’s all-time low and make our recommendations accordingly. Best Black Friday 2025 iPad deals Black Friday Week is here, and by now it probably feels like the deals have been running all month as Amazon, Best Buy, and other retailers in the U.S., U.K., and elsewhere have been slashing prices. As the sale really ramps up for the Black Friday weekend, the best deals are surfacing. But you’ll have to be quick because the sale will be over after Cyber Monday on December 1. In the U.S. all of Apple’s iPads are at or below their all-time low, including the new M5 iPad Pro, which launched in October has already received its first-ever discount: a massive $100 off. We gave it a five star review as it is undoubtedly the best tablet on the market, but if you own an iPad Pro M4, or are looking at a deal on one, we suggest that it’s not a huge update from the older model so deals on the older model are worth considering. There is also a a decent $100 off the iPad Air. Of note, the 128GB A16 iPad is $5 below its previous all-time low price with a $75 saving. U.S. Amazon, 11-inch M5 iPad Pro (256GB): $899 ($100 off, MSRP $999) Amazon, 13-inch M5 iPad Pro (256GB): $1,199 ($100 off, MSRP $1,299) Amazon, iPad (A16, 128GB): $274 ($75 off, MSRP $349) Amazon, iPad mini (A17 Pro, 128GB): $399 ($100 off, MSRP $499) Amazon, 11-inch M3 iPad Air (128GB): $449 ($150 off, MSRP $599) Amazon, 13-inch M3 iPad Air (128GB): $649 ($150 off, MSRP $799) Apple, $100 gift card with iPad Air Apple, $50 gift card with iPad and iPad mini Amazon, 11-inch M4 iPad Pro (512GB): $1,049 ($150 off with coupon, MSRP $1,199) Amazon, 13-inch M4 iPad Pro (256GB): $1,199 ($150 off with coupon, MSRP $1,299) U.K. In the U.K. we’re seeing a £100 saving on the iPad Air, which is an excellent deal, but the deals on the other iPads in the U.K. aren’t as big as they are in the U.S. There’s now £50 off the iPad mini (it was just £38 off earlier in the week). The M5 iPad Pro only has a small saving, so right now we are looking at the older models to get a better discount. With that in mind, we’d recommend the M4 iPad Pro if you can find one (it’s £206 off at Amazon, but selling out fast). Here’s a quick overview of Apple’s lineup: iPad: Apple updated its cheapest iPad in 2025 with an A16 chip and twice the storage (128GB) of the previous model. At $349, it’s already a fantastic value, but the Black Friday $274 price puts it in impulse-buy territory. iPad mini: The iPad mini was updated in October 2024 with an A17 Pro processor, 8GB of RAM, and twice the storage (128GB). It regularly drops to $399, which is what we’re seeing for Black Friday as well. iPad Air: Apple updated the iPad Air with an M3 processor in 2024, but left it otherwise unchanged. It still comes in two sizes, 11 inches and 13 inches, and has the same gorgeous design. We saw price cuts as high as $150 off for Prime Day, and the Black Friday sales we’ve tracked so far match that. iPad Pro: The iPad Pro was updated in October with an M5 processor, but nothing else has changed. So we recommend looking for significant savings on the M4 model (and we are spotlighting them above when they appear). iPad Accessory Black Friday 2025 deals Mahmoud Itani / Foundry Black Friday is also a great time to find deals on iPad accessories, including the Apple Pencil (which you can get for less than $50!). Every year, Apple holds a shopping event from Black Friday to Cyber Monday. However, Apple rarely discounts its products and the event consists of gift card offers rather than actual savings. The Apple Black Friday shopping event for 2025 has been announced, and the iPad Air, iPad mini, and standard iPad are all included. It’s no real surprise that the M5 iPad Pro is excluded, as it was just released in October. You can get a gift card for $100/£80 with the Air and $50/£40 with the other iPads. Black Friday 2025: Top shopping tips We tend to find that the biggest savings are on older models, but be aware that these aren’t always the best value for money. Check the generation of the model that is discounted to make sure you know exactly what you are buying and what it’s really worth. We’ve seen resellers switch to selling refurbished or used when the stock of brand-new models run out, so check that the model discounted isn’t actually a used Mac and therefore not as good a deal as it might look. That’s not to say you should avoid refurb models; you just need to make sure that you aren’t buying something used when you want a new model. Mac deals aren’t limited to Black Friday. We see good deals all year round, so don’t feel pressured into buying during Black Friday. How to get the best MacBook deals for Black Friday 2025: Our advice Foundry Apple updated nearly all of its MacBook models in 2025, and we expect to see all-time-low pricing on many models and configurations. M4 MacBook Air: released this past March with a $100 price cut. The base model is $999 and can be found for $750/£849 during Black Friday week. M4 Pro/Max MacBook Pro: released in 2024 and are still excellent machines. Worth the investment when it’s $300/£250 or more off. M5 MacBook Pro: released in October, but we are already seeing discounts of $200 and £200. For more information about the differences and which MacBook might be best for you, read How the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro compare. How to get the best Mac deals for Black Friday 2025: Our advice Simon Jary / Foundry Apple hasn’t updated any of its consumer-level desktop Macs in 2025, so prices on the M4 models are as low as they’ve ever been: M4/M4 Pro Mac mini: Apple updated the Mac mini late last year with an M4 chip and a new design. The M4 Mac mini is a fantastic device with an extremely small footprint, so don’t hesitate to grab one at a discount, we’ve seen $200/£130 off. M4 iMac: The iMac has a 24-inch 4.5K display and a speedy M4 processor starting at $1,299. Look for sales below $1,150/£1,170 before you decide to buy one. Does Apple discount Macs for Black Friday? Apple doesn’t drop prices for Black Friday. Rather, it gives away gift cards when you buy certain items. For Apple’s Black Friday shopping event in 2025 it is giving away gift cards with MacBook Air, Mac mini, iMac and M4 Pro and M4 Max MacBook Pro purchases made on Apple’s U.S. site or Apple’s U.K. site. Since they are so new, the M5 MacBook Pro models aren’t included in Apple’s deal. The 2025 deal is pretty good. You can get a gift card for up to $250 on a new Mac, which is better than 2024’s maximum offer. 202520242023202215-inch MacBook Air$200$200$200n/a13-inch MacBook Air$175$175$175$15013-inch MacBook Air (M2)–$150$150$150Mac mini$100–$100$10014-inch & 16-inch MacBook Pro$250––$250iMac$150––$150 Buying from Apple means you are guaranteed to be buying the latest Mac, whereas other resellers may be clearing old stock.
