Macworld One of the most highly anticipated Apple releases of recent years, the company’s first ever touchscreen Mac, now looks almost certain to launch in the near future. In the latest report vouching for its existence, a leaker has said the device is “100% confirmed.” In a post to Weibo on Thursday, the leaker known as Instant Digital made a characteristically terse comment on the upcoming product. “It’s 100% confirmed that the MacBook screen will be touch-enabled,” they wrote (translated from the original Chinese using Google Translate). That’s an unusually definitive claim. In general, leakers tend to avoid absolutes, preferring to speak in terms of what is likely or probable, what Apple is currently exploring or hopes to achieve. Caveats are added to remind readers that plans can change or that sources may be mistaken. But this is presented as a mathematical certainty. Instant Digital is either very sure or taking a big risk. Weibo leaks, admittedly, come thick and fast and aren’t always the most reliable source of information about upcoming Apple releases; Instant Digital doesn’t have much of a track record of accurate predictions to point to in defence of their credibility. But despite their certainty, they are far from the only pundit to claim that a touchscreen MacBook is on the way. In May, supply-chain sources indicated that production of OLED screens for the touchscreen MacBook Pro had cleared a key hurdle, and that Samsung Display could be ready to ship the panels to Apple as soon as June. Earlier this month, the research firm Omdia said the MacBook (supposedly branded as the “MacBook Ultra”) would launch in the third quarter of this year. Not all analysts are as optimistic about the timeframe as that, but most agree that a touchscreen Mac is in the pipeline and should appear by late 2026 or early 2027. Ming-Chi Kuo and Mark Gurman, two of the most respected voices in Apple punditry, both say the product is on the way, with the former commenting on likely timings last September and the latter in October. At this point, the real surprise would be if Apple doesn’t launch a touchscreen Mac. Still a report saying it’s definitely coming is rare. But don’t worry, we’ll carry on tracking the speculation and leaks. For all the latest news, bookmark our regularly updated touchscreen MacBook Pro superguide.
