A leaker with a strong Apple rumor track record says a touchscreen MacBook is "100% confirmed. If true, it would mark a major reversal for Apple, which has long argued that the Mac is built for indirect input rather than reaching up to touch a vertical screen. MacRumors reports: Instant Digital has a good track record for Apple rumors and has provided some strikingly accurate information in the past, so it's always worth noting what they have to say about Apple's plans. The claim is also backed by several recent reports. [...] Touchscreen support is expected to be one of several major upgrades coming to Apple's next-generation high-end MacBook Pro models. Other rumored features include M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, an OLED display, a Dynamic Island (i.e., no notch), and a thinner design. The new laptops could also adopt MacBook Ultra branding. Notably, macOS 27 Golden Gate also introduces a more touch-friendly interface, since Apple's Sidecar feature now allows users to tap and interact with macOS interface elements using a finger on their iPad. Apple apparently is not going to advertise the new MacBook Pro/Ultra as a touch-first device like the iPad -- it will be "touch-friendly, not touch-first," according to [Bloomberg's Mark Gurman]. In that sense, Apple will let customers use touch and mouse gestures interchangeably for all functions. Macworld The touchscreen MacBook Pro has been the subject of speculation ever since Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman first reported that Apple was exploring the idea in 2023. At the time, the prospect seemed unlikely given Apple’s long-standing opposition to touchscreen laptops. Today, however, the rumours are becoming increasingly difficult to dismiss. Recent reports suggest Apple has overcome key technical and design hurdles, paving the way for the first touchscreen MacBook Pro. Industry observers are now combing through the recently previewed macOS 27 Golden Gate for further clues that touch support is on the way. If the reports are accurate, the touchscreen will arrive as part of a major overhaul of Apple’s flagship laptop. Rumoured upgrades include OLED display technology, a redesigned chassis, and next-generation Apple Silicon, making the update one of the most significant in the MacBook Pro’s history. The timing would be fitting. In 2026, the MacBook Pro celebrates its 20th anniversary, and Apple could mark the occasion with a feature many believed would never make its way to a Mac. Some analysts believe the move would help further distinguish the MacBook Pro from the MacBook Air and the rumoured budget-friendly MacBook Neo. There are still questions surrounding pricing, however. Ongoing supply-chain challenges and the higher cost of OLED panels could push prices up compared with current models. Expected release date for the touchscreen MacBook Pro Late 2026 or early 2027 Apple is widely expected to launch a redesigned MacBook Pro with a touchscreen OLED display in late 2026 or early 2027. While the company has yet to officially confirm the device, reports from industry analysts and references discovered in Apple’s software suggest that development is well underway. Most rumours point to two possible launch windows: Late 2026 Launch: Several reports, including Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, initially indicated that the touchscreen MacBook Pro could debut in the second half of 2026. An October launch would align with Apple’s traditional MacBook Pro release schedule, which typically falls in the final months of the year. Early 2027 Launch: Kuo and Gurman now believe supply-chain constraints could delay the launch until early 2027. According to the South Korean Naver blog in January, Samsung has begun production on its new 8.6-generation OLED manufacturing line, which is expected to supply panels for the next-generation MacBook Pro. The start of display production suggested Apple could be on track to launch the laptop before the end of 2026. Further backing this timeline, Mark Gurman reported in February that the M6 MacBook Pro is expected to arrive in the “back half” of 2026. However, a delay remains possible. In April, Gurman reported that supply-chain issues were affecting development of the redesigned MacBook Pro, potentially pushing its release into 2027. For now, the most likely scenario is a launch in late 2026, with early 2027 serving as a fallback if production challenges persist.04:27 pm∞ The Dalrymple Report: Apple’s secret AI meeting, Siri AI, and Apple Intelligence
