Despite a report on Bloomberg yesterday which quoted Wang Hsin-wu, a spokesperson for Apple’s Taiwan contractor Alpha-Top, Apple is denying that a new larger screen iBook is in the works. “The Alpha-Top spokesperson quoted in the article was incorrect in regard to Apple’s iBook plans. What he said is not true,” an Apple spokesperson told MacCentral.

Japanese scientists at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in Tsukuba, Japan have discovered a way to bypass an optical-electricity bottleneck that slows down communications systems. According to an article in NewScientist, “Japanese scientists say their ‘optical transistor’ could eventually lead to all-optical networks that will dramatically improve the speed of Internet connections.

Adaptec has posted driver update for their 2906 SCSI card. VersionTracker notes that Adaptec 2906 1.3 offers “added support for PowerManagement on the Power Macintosh G4s with 133 MHz system bus and 466, 533, 677, 733 MHz or faster G4 Processor. These systems can now go into ‘Deep Sleep’ mode when put to sleep and will awaken properly.”
