Following up on its coverage yesterday of the departure of Richard Kerris, Director of Maya Technologies for Alias|wavefront, Macworld UK reports that the company plans to ship Maya for Mac in September. An Alias|wavefront spokesperson also noted that Kerris — who was the head of Maya for Mac — left the company due to the softening economy.

At a conference in Monaco today, Palm unveiled an insertable Bluetooth wireless card that would enable it to communicate with other devices using the technology. The card, which is expected to be priced less than US$150, will be available this fall. Bluetooth still has a long way to go to become a standard in the wireless world, but this announcement by Palm is sure to be a boost to the technology.

News.com reports that Handspring will announce a US$100 rebate today on their $399 Visor Edge personal digital assistant (PDA). In order to receive the rebate, customers will have to trade in a PDA from Handspring or any of its competitors.

The European Commission released a plan today for a more secure Internet for member countries of the European Union. The proposal answered a call for a comprehensive strategy to secure electronic networks made by the Stockholm European Council in late March and follows in the footsteps of the United States’ National Plan for Critical Infrastructure Protection, according to News.com.
