New chip could help create multiplatform applications

As every Mac users knows, applications designed for another platform cannot run under the Mac OS until they have been ported. Besides rewriting the code, though, it’s possible for a microchip to “translate” the code from one platform to another. Adaptec updates 39160 SCSI firmware

Adaptec has posted a firmware update for their 39160 SCSI card, as noted on VersionTracker. The update fixes several problems including a sleep issue with the Power Macintosh G4 with 133MHz system bus running at 466, 533, 677, 733MHz; the computer should no longer hang after being put into sleep mode.
