MacCentral is reporting that Apple has sent a letter out to customers of their KidSafe service informing them that due to low usage, the child Internet protection system is being shut down.

VersionTracker notes that America Online has made a new version of their online service software for Mac OS X available. AOL 13d can only be downloaded while logged into AOL (use Keyword “Beta”).

Metricom, which runs the wireless, high-speed Ricochet network, will be shutting down service to the network this and laying off all 282 employees. The service, which allows users to connect at 128Kbps or more in select metropolitan areas, never caught on enough to be profitable.
