Thursby Software has posted DAVE 3.0a8, the newest version of its software that allows Mac OS X systems to connect to Windows networks. The pre-release software is available free of charge and includes several minor fixes and improvements over previous versions. The final version is due out in the near future.

SearchWare Solutions has released Pix Lite for Mac OS X, the final, Carbonized version of its QuickTime-based media viewer. PixLite supports all QuickTime compatible media and includes slideshow and movie presentation features, as well as AppleScript support. PixLite is US$15 shareware.

Joe Maller has released Joe’s Filters, a collection of 12 filters for Final Cut Pro. The filters are available at an introductory price of US$40 through September 15, after which the price is $55. A fully functional trial version is available.

Apple’s retail stores in Glendale Galleria and Tyson’s Corner will be featuring a free QuarkXPress for Advanced Users session today at 6 PM and 7:30 PM. This Saturday (and every Saturday through September 1), all retail stores will also be featuring a “Give Your Kids the Edge” presentation, which runs every hour from 11 AM to 5 PM. The PC and semiconductor industries won’t be poised for a rebound until 2005, according to a new report from International Data Corporation. IDC predicts the PC market to decline from US$38.6 billion in 2000 to $27.3 billion this year, while the semiconductor market will fall from $50.3 billion to $38 billion.
