Macworld UK notes that Apple will be hosting a seminar on the “Making of Desktop Movies” in England on September 12 from 10:00am – 4:40pm. Experts who will be attending the event include Digital Voodoo, LaCie, Matrox, Sony, and of course, Apple. In addition, there will be a Mac OS X Server seminar taking place on September 6 from 1:00pm – 4:30pm — also hosted by Apple.

iGetter 1.3 — an Internet file download management utility — is now available as a pre-release version. This release of iGetter contains a number of enhancements and improvements over version PR1.1, including three types of queue filters that automatically show downloads in accordance with various criterions and more. iGetter PR1.3 is available for Mac OS X, as well as Mac OS 7.5.3 through 9.x.

Macworld UK is reporting that Apple has hired Richard Kerris, former director of Maya Technologies at Alias|Wavefront, as Director of Developer Strategies for the company. Mr. Kerris will report to Ron Okamoto, VP of worldwide developer relations at Apple.

SiliconValley.com is holding a “Roundtable” discussion on the future of Apple Computer with a guest lineup that includes Gil Amelio, Jean-Louis Gassée, Jon Fortt, Jef Raskin, Shawn King and more. Questions are posed by the moderator and then answered by the guests in a forum-post format.

Bloomberg is reporting that Apple plans to spend US$85 million by December 31 on their retail stores — this according to the company’s quarterly SEC filing. Other items of note in the regulatory filing are that Apple has entered into lease commitments totaling about $203 million and they expected to see their retail operation turn a “slight profit” by September 2002.
