nVIDIA yesterday reported a second quarter profit of US$33.6 million on revenues of $260.3 million. “All of (our) new products and technologies (are) really hitting stride,” said Michael Hara, vice president of investor relations and communications for NVidia. The company also announced a two-for-one stock split. nVIDIA’s GeForce graphics processors power Apple’s Power Mac G4 systems.

Sonnet today cut prices on many of its G3 processor upgrades and its G4 upgrade for the Power Mac 7200. Price cuts range up to US$50 and are detailed in the press release.

Apple has compiled a detailed list of Demo Days locations that will be taking place in Canada over the next two months. Demo Days are being held in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec.

An Apple feature spotlights internationally renowned glassmakers Kate Jones and Stephen Gillies, who use a Mac in almost every area of their business. “Our work is all about colour and light, and about indulging our passion to push the boundaries technically and creatively with hot glass – and that’s where the Mac really comes into its own,” says Kate. “It gives me complete visual freedom.”

NASA’s Helios unmanned plane, which has already set altitude records on its way to breaking 100,000 feet, is powered at its heart by a Mac that can guide the solar powered wing back to the Earth, among other tasks. Helios is due to return to Earth today after a multi-day mission that NASA used to test the objects’ viability as an affordable alternative to satellites.
