Sonnet Technologies today announced a new version of its Crescendo/7200 upgrade for the Power Mac 7200, 7215, 8200, and Workgroup Server 7250. The new upgrade offers full support for 168-pin EDO or Fast Page Mode 5v DIMM memory, supports up to 1GB of virtual memory, and expands compatibility with third-party PCI cards. Pricing for the upgrade remains the same: US$249.95 (G3/400/512K), $349.95 (G3/400/1MB), $449.95 (G4/400/1MB).

School district implements wireless networks, Apple technology

The Quaker Valley school district in Pennsylvania is one of three of the state’s new “digital” districts, which will receive US$2 million in funding to implement new technology. For Quaker Valley, the money has allowed the district to build wireless networks in all four of its schools, while providing teachers with PowerBook G4 system and students with new iBooks. Students will also receive cable modem access at home, provided by the school.

USB On-The-Go looks to expand USB 2.0’s presence

The USB Implementers Forum today released the proposed specification for USB On-The-Go, an extension of USB 2.0 that will enable devices to function as both host or peripheral. The technology would enable MP3 players to be connected to each other to share files, for example, or for a camera to be connected directly to a printer. Ratification of the proposal is expected by the end of the year, with devices featuring the new technology shipping some time next year.
