Extensis has posted Suitcase 10.0.1, an update to its font management utility, according to VersionTracker, which notes that the update adds minor improvements and corrects bugs. Extensis 10 is not yet Carbonized for Mac OS X — an update that adds that functionality will be released later this year.

Maya, the high-end 3D animation package from Alias|wavefront, will ship for Mac OS X one week ahead of schedule on September 18. The Maya pre-order special, which includes a graphics tablet, discount, book, and more, will expire earlier as well. Alias will be demonstrating the software at AppleExpo later this month. The Maya Web site has yet to be updated with the new ship date.

Extension Overload 5.9.1 adds Mac OS 9.2.1 compatibility to the robust extensions manager that contains detailed descriptions for more than 5,200 extensions, control panels, and other System Folder items. Extension Overload is US$29 shareware.

The US Justice Department today announced that it has abandoned its effort to break-up Microsoft as a remedy to the company’s anti-trust violations. Instead, the department will seek a remedy “modeled after the interim conduct-related provisions of the final judgement previously ordered in the case.”

Sony’s eMarker service, which only recently added Mac compatibility, will be shutting down permanently on September 30. eMarker consisted of a small device that interfaced with the eMarker Web site to make it easy for users to identify a song they heard on the radio. Sony is offering to buy back eMarkers for US$25.
