160GB hard drive coming from Maxtor

Maxtor will announce two new Ultra ATA/133 hard drives later today, according to Macworld UK: the D540X, a 160GB, 5,400 RPM hard drive, which extends Maxtor’s reign as offering the world’s largest capacity hard drive, and the D720X is an 80GB, 7,200 RPM drive. Both drives will ship with an Ultra ATA/133 PCI card, although it’s unclear whether there will be Mac support for the card (current Power Mac G4s from Apple feature a much slower, albeit compatible, Ultra ATA/66 interface).

Lind introduces new air/auto power adapter

Lind Electronics has announced a new air/auto power adapter for Apple’s PowerBook G4 and 2001 iBooks. The new model (#AP2425-523) measures 3.75-inches long and weighs 6.5 ounces. The “ruggerdized” adapter features short circuit protection, under/over-voltage protection, internal temperature limit cut-off, and ships with a nylon carrying case. The adapter is available for US$79.95 and comes with a three-year warranty.

Christian Vick has released The Free Memory Show 2.3 — a small tool to display the amount of free memory on your system and to quit open applications. The Free Memory Show does three things: displays the computer’s free memory in a small floating window, notifies you when free memory drops a value that you determine, and helps you regain memory by either quitting all applications or quitting them one by one — in the reverse order of launch — until enough memory is free.
