Intel preps 802.11a products

Intel plans to ship 802.11a-based wireless products in November, reports c|net. 802.11a supports transfer speeds of up to 54Mbps, compared with 11Mbps for 802.11b (AirPort). The two technologies are not compatible, however, and there have been conflicting reports as to whether 802.11a’s range can match that of 802.11b. Analysts, however, see 802.11a as being more than a year away from wide-spread use.

Metrowerks today announced the immediate availability of CodeWarrior 7.0 for Mac OS and Mac OS X. CodeWarrior 7.0 supports Classic Mac OS, Carbon, NativeMac OS X (Cocoa), and Java, as well as including Metrowerks object-oriented C+++ PowerPlant framework. CodeWarrior 7.0 carries a US$599 price tag; upgrades from version 6.0 are $299.

ComputerWare comes back this Saturday

Elite Computers & Software, the Cupertino-based Mac reseller that purchased the rights to former San Francisco bay-area reseller ComputerWare last week, will be re-opening three ComputerWare stores in the near future, according to MacCentral. The first store will open on September 15 in San Rafael, while Capitola and Sunnyvale will get stores later this year. Door prizes and product demonstrations will be offered at the San Rafael store to commemorate its re-opening.
