ATI has posted a ROM update for its Radeon Mac Edition, Rage Orion, Nexus 128, and XClaim VR 128 retail video cards, as noted by VersionTracker. The update corrects some issues with the cards under Mac OS X, but is not needed for systems that shipped with an XClaim VR 128 or Radeon built-in.

Apple’s $799 iMac is now available for purchase from the Apple Store. As we mentioned last week, the new 500MHz model is identical to the $999 iMac, but features half the built-in RAM (64MB) and a CD-ROM drive in place of a CD-RW drive. It is available only in Indigo.

While Hewlett-Packard’s new low-cost (US$249) LaserJet 1000printer, introduced on Friday, is not Mac-compatible, two of its competitors are: Samsung’s $200 ML-1210 andBrother’s $300 HL-1440, both of which feature USB connectivity and are compatible with Mac OS 8.5 and later.

From now through November 15, Handspring is offering a free copy of DataViz’ Documents To Go software with the purchase of any of Visor handheld. Documents To Go allows Palm handhelds to open and edit Microsoft Word and Excel files.

David Coursey of ZDNet AnchorDesk has written a column that sings the praises of Mac OS X 10.1, advising Windows (and Linux) users to at least consider the operating system, while briefly comparing it to Windows XP. “I hope people who care about computing–or help others decide what to buy–will take a look at both operating systems and make the best choices and recommendations.”
