As Apple appears to have avoided the plague of earnings warnings and 2002 profit reassessments among PC makers, those who watch the industry for a living say the worst is yet to come for the PC sector. In an article at Smartmoney.com, Roger Kay, director of client computing at market research firm IDC, is quoted as saying “a real drying-up [of consumer demand]” for PCs has now engulfed the industry. Elite computers announced today that they are opening three new stores in the San Francisco Bay area named “ComputerWare by Elite Computers & Software.” These stores will occupy the same retail space formerly used by ComputerWare — whose name was acquired by Elite early last month. The Grand Opening of the Sunnyvale location is scheduled for Friday, October 19th at 10:00am. The Capitola store will be open by the end of the month and the Berkeley location is expected to open in November.
