LightWork Design has released LightWorks for Mac OS X. The company bills the 3D design and animation tool as featuring “the industry’s fastest rendering engine.”

Keyspan has released version 1.0 of the drivers for its USB adapters, including the Twin Serial Adapter, PDA Adapter, High Speed Serial Adapter, and Serial Adapter. Some models will not be compatible with Mac OS X, however, as documented on Keyspan’s site.

Apple is organizing a media event next week that will be used to usher in a new “breakthrough digital device,” according to the invitation to the event that will take place on October 23 at 10:00 PT. C|net sources suggest the device will be related to digital music; Apple declined comment. The invitation also notes: “Hint: It’s not a Mac.”

Econ Technologies has announced Portraits & Prints, an affordable Mac OS X “personal photo studio.” Portraits & Prints allows users to import photos; perform basic modification, including red-eye reduction; and then arrange snapshots for printing in a variety of mediums, including portraits or greeting cards. Portraits & Prints will be available on October 31 for US$19.95.
