Microsoft Internet Explorer Security Update available

MacCentral notes that Microsoft has released a security update for Internet Explorer 5.1 today. The update addresses an issue where Internet Explorer 5.1 automatically launches downloaded MacBinary and BinHex files, opening up the door to the system launching virus infected or other dangerous files. This update is available via the Software Update utility in Mac OS X’s System Preferences.

While not vulnerable by default, the security hole could pose a problem for some users and involves the NetInfo Manager. Unsanity adds WindowShade to Mac OS X

Unsanity Echo has released WindowShade X 1.0, its second “haxie,” which restores the traditional Mac OS window-minimizing effect to Mac OS X. Currently, WindowShade X only work with Carbon applications. Unsanity’s first haxie, ShadowKiller 1.0, removes the drop shadows from windows and menus in Mac OS X, significantly changing the system’s appearance and increasing performance a bit, as well.
