ArKaos SA has announced the release of ArKaos VJ 2.1 — real-time video authoring tools — for Mac OS X. ArKaos VJ allows users to build professional style special effects videos using still images taken from holiday snaps, digital cameras and the Web.

Mac OS X 10.1.1 is now available through the Software Update control panel. From the description, “The 10.1.1 update delivers improvements for many USB and FireWire devices, including support for additional digital cameras, and overall improvements to CD and DVD burning. Enhancements have been made to AFP, SMB, and WebDAV networking, as well as improved support for printing. This update also delivers better application compatibility, including updates to the Finder and Mail application.

At Comdex, Palm has begun taking pre-orders for Palm OS 4.1, according to c|net, which improves security and adds other features. Palm also announced that it will not be able to ship its Secure Digital expansion card for adding Bluetooth wireless capabilities to supported Palm handhelds this year, as originally expected. The expansion card is now expected to ship some time next year.

Sony yesterday introduced its new Micro Vault USB Storage Media Device, a keychain-sized USB drive with capacities up to 128MB. The device is platform independent and operates without drivers. Pricing follows: 16MB (US$49.99), 32MB ($89.99), 64MB ($149.99), and 128MB ($299.99).

Apple has launched its Holiday Gift Guide, a collection of both Apple and third-party products that it recommends as gifts for Mac users this holiday season. All listed products are available for purchase via the Apple Store, including special bundles such as an iPod with satellite speakers and subwoofer for US$498, and a collection of three hot Mac OS X games for $99.95. Items can be browsed by product category, interests of the gift receiver, or price.
