Intel and Advanced Micro Devices are set to unveil their fastest processors to date on Monday, according to Reuters. AMD will reportedly unveil the Athlon XP 2000+, which runs at 1.67GHz, while Intel is expected to introduce a new Pentium 4 chip running at 2.2GHz.

The Register has published dozens of reader emails that it received following a recent article voicing discontent for the Aqua interface in Mac OS X. Perhaps surprisingly, the vast majority of published emails support the views of the article, criticizing Aqua and, more importantly, the performance burden that the interface places on the operating system.

Aspyr Media has released Star Trek: Voyager – Elite Force 1.2, an updated version of its Trek-based first-person shooter. Version 1.2 adds the Jeri Ryan voice pack — who was the only character in the game not accompanied by the actual voice of the actor from the TV series — and an updated version of the Holomatch engine that allows players without the Expansion Pack to compete in multiplayer against those that own it. New multiplayer skins are also included, such as the Borgified Captain Janeway.

A number of new printer drivers are available for Mac OS X 10.1.2 via the Software Update control panel, including Canon Printer Drivers 1.0, Epson European Printer Drivers 1.0, Epson Japanese Printer Drivers 1.0, Epson US Model Printer Drivers 1.0 and HP DeskJet and PhotoSmart Printer Drivers 1.0. The new drivers add support for a wider range of printer models and improve compatibility.

Aspyr Media has announced it will release 4×4 Evo 2, the sequel to the offroad racing game from Terminal Reality, for Mac OS 8/9 and Mac OS X in February. The game features a mission-based adventure system that allows players to explore environments in their favorite truck, SUV or other offroad vehicle (120 to choose from). 4×4 Evo 2 is currently available for pre-order for US$39.95. The game will be on display at next week’s Macworld Expo San Francisco, with additional game announcements expected from Aspyr at the show.
