Charismac has released Discribe 5.0, a major upgrade to its CD/DVD authoring software. iView MediaPro 1.4 is an updated version of iView Multimedia’s application for viewing, organizing and presenting photos, images and other multimedia on Mac OS 8/9 and Mac OS X. The new version adds a “backup” feature for archiving media, JPEG lossless rotation, mouse wheel support, support for thumbnail icons in Mac OS X and more. iView MediaPro 1.4 sells for US$45.

Netlock Technologies has released a new virtual private network (VPN) client for Mac OS 8/9 that establishes secure encrypted tunnels to Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrators through either public networks or corporate dial-up facilities. The Netlock VPN Client for Cisco costs US$100 for a single-user license; volume discounts are available for quantities over 70.

Magnet Media, Inc. today announced that it will be including a Final Cut Pro 3 Ramp-Up PDF Guide with its interactive training CD-ROM, Inside Editing with Final Cut Pro 2. The 3-hour, 10-lesson series covers a number of topics including setting up the Final Cut Pro workspace, logging and capturing, basic editing techniques, media management and organization, motion effects and advanced compositing. Inside Editing with Final Cut Pro 2 sells for US$199.

Digidesign last Friday introduced the Mbox, a 2-channel USB audio peripheral offering audio and MIDI recording, editing, real-time mixing and Internet collaboration. The device works in conjunction with Pro Tools 5.2 LE, a powerful audio editing solution geared for audio professionals. Mbox will ship in spring 2002 for US$495.
