Macromedia has released Shockwave Player 8.5.1 for MacOS X, the first Mac OS X version of the browser plug-in for viewing Shockwave content. The plug-in is currently only compatible with Internet Explorer, Opera, and Netscape.

C|net‘s on-going “Vision Series,” which profiles 13 of the top CEOs in the tech industry, offers interesting facts about each, including personal computer, PDA, and cell phone preferences. Eight CEOs have been featured to date; of them, Barry Schuler, CEO of AOL Time Warner, owns three G4 systems, while Rob Glaser, CEO of RealNetworks, owns an iBook.

El Gato Software has released iPhoto Toast Export Plugin, a free plugin for Apple’s iPhoto that allows users to burn directly from the photo application using Roxio Toast Titanium 5.1 or later. Users can choose to burn individual pictures, albums, rolls or the entire photo library.

ZDNet Executive Editor David Coursey, who last week announced that he will be documenting his switch to the Mac for a month, has published his first column on the experience. “If there is a creative bone in your body, it’s hard not to look at the Macintosh and not feel something tingle–which is precisely what Apple is counting on.”

Many airlines are putting on hold plans to add high-speed Internet connectivity to their planes, according to c|net. Citing the economic effects of the September 11 attacks on the industry, Air Canada, American, United, Delta, and other airlines have lowered the priority for implementing the service, which would account for a large amount of the expected US$70 billion travellers would spend over the next 10 years checking their email or downloading movies from inside the cabin.
