Palm loses market share in 2001

New figures from market researcher NPD Techworld reveal that Palm, the number one handheld maker, lost marketshare in 2001, declining to 58 percent from 71 percent the previous year. C|net reports that during the same period, Handspring’s market share increased from 14 percent to 15 percent, while Sony’s share reached 6 percent from less than 1 percent.

Apple wins Grammy award

Apple, who last year received an Emmy award for pioneering FireWire, will be receiving a Technical Grammy award at the 44th annual Grammy Awards ceremony on February 26. “Apple Computer is considered the leading architect in bringing computer technology into the studio and revolutionizing the way music is written, produced, mixed, recorded and creatively imagined,” reads the press release from The Recording Academy.
