Remember the recent flap over Apple using a patent drawing based upon the app of a developer?  It turns out if you read the fine print Apple is within its rights to use anything submitted to them.  Certainly the understanding is that Apple will play fair. See the contract for submission to Apple’s iTunes Store at http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html .

Apple does try to protect trademarks and copyrights, but you do need to have a copyright to see Apple enforce it (see http://www.apple.com/legal/trademark/claimsofcopyright.html)/

PluralEyes available for Adobe Premiere Pro

Singular Software, developer of workflow automation applications for digital media, says its flagship product PluralEyes is now available for Adobe Premiere Pro Creative Suite (CS) versions 4 and 5. Well, it’s available for Windows, though a Mac version is in the works.

PluralEyes provides workflow automation features for editing multi-camera, multi-take, and dual-system audio projects. By analyzing audio information, it synchronizes audio and video clips automatically, without the need for timecode, clappers or any special preparation.

An iPad mini for the holidays?

I’m not sure an iPad mini makes sense, but the scuttlebutt going around today is that we’ll see a 7-inch version of the Apple tablet in time for the holidays.

Chinese-language “Economic Daily News,” a financial newspaper, says Taiwanese companies are starting to assemble a 7-inch iPad. The publication — whose story was translated by the IDG News Service (http://macosg.me/2/q3) — says Chimei Innolux will supply 7-inch LCD screens, while touchscreen technology for the “iPad minis” will come from Cando Corp. Compai Electronics will assemble the devices, says “Economic Daily News.”

Apple has 48% of worldwide mobile market earnings in second quarter

Apple collected 48% of the worldwide mobile market’s earnings before interest and taxes in the second quarter of 2010 despite having approximately 3% of the overall mobile sales in the quarter,, according to new stats from Asymco (http://macosg.me/2/q2), which provides mobile app development services to business customers.

“It dwarfs all the other vendors, more than double the nearest (Nokia),” says Asymco. “All that in three years and with the added burdens of only three models, a recession and limited distribution.”
