It’s alive: the iPod shuffle gets revamp and button

Reports of its demise were a bit premature. Apple has announced the new redesigned iPod shuffle that features both clickable “ring” buttons and Apple’s innovative VoiceOver technology, enabling users to navigate their music and playlists without ever looking at their iPod shuffle.

The new wearable iPod shuffle has an all-aluminum enclosure with a built-in clip and comes in five colors: silver, blue, green, orange and pink. With nearly 50% more battery life, the new iPod shuffle features over 15 hours of music playback on a single battery charge and offers 2GB of storage for US$49.

New iPod nano sports Multi-Touch interface

Apple has unveiled a completely redesigned iPod nano featuring a Multi-Touch interface that lets users navigate their music collection by simply tapping or swiping a finger on the display.

Nearly half the size and weight of the previous generation, the new iPod nano features a polished aluminum and glass enclosure with a built-in clip, making it instantly wearable. The teeny iPod features Genius Mixes, the ability to create and edit playlists, a built-in FM radio with live pause and up to 24 hours of music playback on a single battery charge.

Safari, iOS gain market share; Mac OS X down slightly

Safari and iOS market share for Internet usage rose from July to August while the Mac OS X percentage dipped slightly, according to the latest market share survey from NetMarketShare (http://www.netmarketshare.com).

According to the report, among operating systems, Mac OS X had 5% of the global market share in August, compared to 5.06% in June (that’s global market share; in the US it’s almost 10%). Windows remains dominant with 91.34% as of August. That’s up from from 91.32% in July. Apple’s highest percentage previously was 5.27% in October 2009.
