Palm’s stock dropped 20 percent today after lowering their fourth quarter revenue outlook for the second time. The company also announced they will no longer purchase software company Extended Systems Inc., a key step in Palm’s strategy to grow sales to corporations.

Speculation increased that BT Openworld would hike its prices after a similar move from ISP Freeserve, reported ZDNet UK. BT Openworld has already admitted that it is shifting its broadband focus from consumer to the more lucrative business market. Freeserve increased their price from £39.99 to £49.99.

Bare Bones Software today announced the release of BBEdit 6.1.2 Update, the company’s stellar HTML and text editor — incidentally, the software used to create MacMinute’s Web pages from start to finish. Version 6.1.2 offers compatibility with a wide variety of FTP servers, improved performance under Mac OS X, support for previewing HTML documents in OmniWeb, and various other interface refinements and fixes for reported issues.

Game Guru Extraordinaire Peter Cohen of MacCentral has served up a report from MacSoft regarding Civilization III. The third incarnation of this popular game is designed by Sid Meier, and offers new a graphics engine that will provide better looking maps, animation and graphics, according to Peter’s report. Civilization III will also offer new customization tools, enhanced combat, and trade and diplomacy features.

ZDNet reports that the European commission has drafted a proposal, supported by the police, that would see all emails and Web traffic be logged and kept up to seven years. Ministers involved in the European Council have agreed to back the police on the issue.
