Apple has posted the English-North America version of Network Assistant 4.0.3. The update includes only the Network Assistant Startup extension, which resolves several bugs with the network management software. Apple has also posted the English-North American version of MacintoshManager 2.0.1, a new version of Apple’s workstation management technology. The update addresses a minor bug.

Apple is presently trading down $1.80 today, or 8.4 percent, as the tech-sector is getting battered following an earnings warning from Sun Microsystems. This marks the first time in more than two months that Apple has fallen below $20; during that same time it has traded as high $27.

The June 21, 2001 issue of Rolling Stone magazine features an article titled “Moby’s Laptop Studio” (p. 63) that describes the artist’s mobile set up. “I use two Apple [PowerBook] G4s — one for Pro Tools and one for Cubase,” Moby says. An additional, brief article describes how anyone can build their own mobile studio, and also recommends the PowerBook G4.

Aladdin Systems today introduced the StuffIt OneSource Volume License Program, a new licensing approach designed to make it easier for businesses, schools, and other organizations with mixed-platforms to make volume purchases of the company’s StuffIt compression utility. The licensing agreement, which requires a minimal purchase of 100 seats, allows IT managers to split the licenses between Mac, Windows, Linux, and Solaris systems as they see fit.

Owendo, which two months ago published a 279-page report testing 33 Web application servers, has translated the report from French to English. The English version is available for US$2,000. Of note, Owendo awarded very high marks to Apple’s WebObjects 4.5.
